Who do you love?

Many people have intimated that the scriptures say that money is the root of evil.  Yet, that is not true – it is just one instance of our distorted views of what scripture does and does not say.  It fits our conventional wisdom, because we wish that it were so – since most of us do not have that much of it.

What the scriptures actual say is: “The love of money is the root of all kinds of evil,…”  This of course includes money, but also everything that money can buy for a person.  Also, notice that it does not say that the love of money is responsible for ALL evil. Just some.

You see the reality is that we love what we trust.  Oh, I know you say you trust Jesus, G-d, or whatever nominal faith you claim, but the proof, as they say, is in the pudding.  What is it that you really rely on?  What do you seek the most: overtime or serving God?  If we were to sit down with each person and watch the words they speak, actions they take, what (and who) they are critical of, what (and who) they are forgiving, and the focus they place on money and things in their lives, my suspicion is that many people who claim to follow Jesus (or any faith for that matter) merely do so on Twitter, rather than in daily practice.

If we were honest, for most of us we could take “In God We Trust” off our money because we really trust in Washingtons, Jeffersons, Lincolns, Hamiltons, Jacksons, and Franklins. Now we may love us some presidents, but trusting dead folks who did not rise from the grave is bad business, and will lead to some grave disappointments – pun intended.

This week, search what you really love and trust.  If it is not what you want it to be, change your priorities and you will find a new life you had not expected.

Nurse Practitioner Ari Kravitz

When I started medical transition at 20 years old, it was very difficult to get the care I needed for hormone replacement therapy because there are very few providers trained in starting hormones for trans people, even though it’s very similar to the hormones that we prescribe to women in menopause or cisgender men with low testosterone.

I hope more providers get trained in LGBTQ+ healthcare, so they can support patients along their individual gender journey, and provide the info needed to make informed decisions about their body. I’ve personally seen my trans patients find hope and experience a better quality of life through hormone replacement therapy.
