Unpredictable a 'sell-out'

It was an "unpredictable" night at Play Dance Club as more than 300 people watched some 52 models show off the latest in fashion from Bamboo; Betty Badd Couture; D'Vich Designs; Joe; and Smack, raising more than $10,000 for Nashville's GLBT Chamber of Commerce.

Models strutted the runway in three different categories - casual wear; underwear/swimwear and "wild card".

"I think we've seen some of the most beautiful people in Nashville," said David Lazarus from the VIP area. "I didn't really know what to expect from the show. I have to say this event far exceeded anything I was expecting. It's been great."

While an exact amount raised wasn't available at press time, co-chair Michael Fluck said he thought it would exceed $10,000. More than 90 auction items were sold at a silent auction.

"We appreciate so many people coming out to support this fantastic event," Fluck said. "We worked hard to bring them what we hoped would be not just an unpredictable night, but an unforgettable night. The evening would not have been possible without the support of all the sponsors and outstanding group of volunteers."

Event sponsors included gold sponsors of Angelite, Anode, Bridgestone North America, MTV Networks/CMT, Play Dance Club, The Edge of Belle Meade, Inside Out Nashville, Nashville Scene, Out & About Newspaper, and Wells Fargo. silver sponsors include Instinct Magazine, Loew's Vanderbilt Plaza Hotel, PlantOut/Gay.com. and the Bronze sponsor was Bart Durham, attorney-at-law.

An expert team of hair and make-up artists from The Edge of Belle Meade worked with models before the show, and during the show providing quick style changes.

Fluck, co-chair Rick Harris and producer Bud East managed a team of more than 20 volunteers throughout the weekend preparing for the show. Play Dance Club donated the club for the event and owners Todd Roman, Joey Brown and their staff worked tirelessly throughout the weekend helping to prepare for the event.

Catering was provided by Ron Sanford and Debra Hyslop from the Church Street Cafe, which included delicious finger foods and a lettuce wrap station. Flowers were provided by Mark Weber with Branches.

Nurse Practitioner Ari Kravitz

When I started medical transition at 20 years old, it was very difficult to get the care I needed for hormone replacement therapy because there are very few providers trained in starting hormones for trans people, even though it’s very similar to the hormones that we prescribe to women in menopause or cisgender men with low testosterone.

I hope more providers get trained in LGBTQ+ healthcare, so they can support patients along their individual gender journey, and provide the info needed to make informed decisions about their body. I’ve personally seen my trans patients find hope and experience a better quality of life through hormone replacement therapy.
