Play Dance Club, Tribe Video Bar and Red Restaurant have teamed up and are offering the following entertainment for New Year's Eve.

Play New Year’s Eve
Singer/Songwriter Kristy Lee opens in the Showbar at 8 p.m.

In her hometown of Bay Minette, Kristy Lee could be found knee deep in Alabama clay playing her music on a truck tailgate by campfire to anyone with listening ears. Kristy is one of the few who knew from the beginning what she wanted to do with her life...reach as many people as possible through the universal language of music. Inspired by a wide variety of music, beginning as a child in the bathtub, Kristy never believed music should be categorized. She believes music should be judged by feelings and nothing more...the main reason her music has not been labeled or categorized. When Kristy writes a song the music and lyrics do not come from any particular style. Kristy's music and lyrics come from feelings, and the resulting style is exclusively Kristy Lee. A popular performer (with almost 5,000 MySpace friends,) play is proud to have Kristy back on stage New Year’s Eve.

DJ Lenny B keeps the Dance floor hopping all night long

Carmella Marcella Garcia headlines the Playmates’ show at 10:30 p.m. and 1 a.m.

In today’s celebrity culture, the word “legend” is often overused, but few would dare deny it as an appropriate description of the female impersonator and entertainer extraordinaire, Carmella Marcella Garcia.  Carmella, who for the past twelve years has been the Show Director at Southern Nights in Orlando Florida, the South’s premier female impersonation show bar, has joined the Play Mates cast at Play and will perform there and ring in the New Year on New Year’s Eve. Always a popular performer and comedienne, Carmella has performed at the Improv and the Comedy Store in LA (where Richard Pryor and others got their starts.)  She’s been on Comedy Central, E Entertainment, the Travel Channel, and HBO.  And she’s opened or worked with numerous celebrities including Eartha Kitt, Crystal Waters, Jennifer Holiday, Carrot Top, and Bruce Vilanch, among others.  She has won every major national drag title in the country for “large girls,” including Miss USA at Large, Miss Universe at Large, and Miss Continental Plus.

Kristy Kay performs on the Dance Floor

People take notice when Kristy Kay sings. An award winning songwriter and performer with many recognizable national commercials to her credit, several feature films and videogame projects under her belt, and pop and dance hits that keep her fans bodies moving, she has been operating on multiple levels in the entertainment and music industry - keeping the passion and the beat going.  She’ll be singing her SMASH dance hit “I Touch Myself” among others after midnight.

Of course, they’ll have a HUGE balloon drop as well as a champagne toast at midnight.

This article has been republished from Out & About Nashville, and was part of a series of first-person pieces written by the late Bobbi Williams.

When I was 14 years old, I surreptitiously made my way through the stacks in the local library until I came to the Psychology section. One after one, I took down the books whose titles I thought would provide an answer, went to the table of contents and, if there were any, I flipped to the pictures.

Many of us have made resolutions and pledged ourselves to transforming some aspect, or aspects, of our lives. For some, these resolutions will involve career, budget, home ownership, etc., but for a LOT of us, they will involve various health, exercise and fitness goals.

Often, these resolutions are vague, like “lose weight” or “exercise more”, and way too often they begin with a gym contract and end with Netflix and a bag of takeout. Getting specific can help in holding yourself accountable for these commitments, though. So we thought it might be interesting to talk with a local gay trainer, James Mai, about his fitness journey, his work as a trainer and how he keeps himself motivated, and get some of his suggestions for carrying through on this year’s fitness resolutions!
