Opinion: Tennessee Legislature Wages Total War On LGBTQ Citizens

Sometimes you feel like the Tennessee General Assembly gets its ideas from a focus group of bigots without access to running water or power, who believe that public education is a bigger threat to their children than opioids and that Jesus is the governor and Bill Lee is just keeping his seat warm. This year, that focus group and the Republican legislative swine who eat at their trough, have decided that it's been too long since Tennessee just went whole hog against the gays, and for good measure made sure that women shouldn't have pesky rights like access to safe abortions. And next week, these KKKristian KKKnights of the Republican party will ramp up their Crusade to destroy the rights of LGBTQ citizens to new excesses.

The LGBTQ community in Tennessee is used to having to execute a fighting retreat against the Republican Christofascist forces of hatred that run this state, but this year it's taken to a whole new level. If we are going to stay, we'll have to struggle harder than before, and try to lose as little ground as possible. These people want to pass laws that restrict our access to healthcare, to housing and jobs, and to equal participation in education and sports: they want to push us into the dark corners where we lose our children to deaths in despair.

Below is a list of [at least most of] the anti-LGBTQ bills that we face JUST NEXT WEEK! Follow Tennessee Equality Project's Facebook page to find events and opportunities to stand up for our rights.

SHOREHAM, VT (September 13, 2023) — WhistlePig Whiskey, the leaders in independent craft whiskey, and Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake are waving the checkered flag on a legend-worthy release that’s taking whiskey to G-Force levels. The Limited Edition PiggyBack Legends Series: Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake Barrel is a high Rye Whiskey selected by the Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake drivers, with barrels trialed in their wind tunnel to ensure a thrilling taste in every sip.

The third iteration in WhistlePig’s Single Barrel PiggyBack Legends Series, the Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake Barrel is bottled at 96.77 proof, a nod to Valtteri Bottas’ racing number, 77, and the precision of racing. Inspired by Zhou Guanyu, the first Chinese F1 driver, this Rye Whiskey is finished with lychee and oolong tea. Herbal and floral notes of the oolong tea complement the herbaceous notes of WhistlePig’s signature PiggyBack 100% Rye, rounded out with a juicy tropical fruit finish and a touch of spice.

Nurse Practitioner Ari Kravitz

When I started medical transition at 20 years old, it was very difficult to get the care I needed for hormone replacement therapy because there are very few providers trained in starting hormones for trans people, even though it’s very similar to the hormones that we prescribe to women in menopause or cisgender men with low testosterone.

I hope more providers get trained in LGBTQ+ healthcare, so they can support patients along their individual gender journey, and provide the info needed to make informed decisions about their body. I’ve personally seen my trans patients find hope and experience a better quality of life through hormone replacement therapy.
