Little Girl' puts plight of transgender children on our screens

Updated October 18, 2021 by Outvoices Editors

Just in time for Transgender Awareness Week, Little Girl is the moving portrait of 7-year-old Sasha, who has always known that she is a girl.

Sasha’s family has recently accepted her gender identity, embracing their daughter for who she truly is while working to confront outdated norms and find affirmation in a small community of rural France.

Realized with delicacy and intimacy, director Sébastien Lifshitz's documentary poetically explores the emotional challenges, everyday feats, and small moments in Sasha’s life.

The beautiful cinematography is by Paul Guilhaume and the editing is by Pauline Gaillard.

Produced by Muriel Meynard this new documentary is available to rent or purchase on all major digital platforms on Tuesday, November 16.

The critics rave:

“An immersive, experiential film…an extraordinary work of portraiture.” -Richard Brody, The New Yorker

"Luminous...Little Girl takes you straight to the heart of the trans child’s experience." -Jude Dry, IndieWire

A New York Times Critic's Pick, the film arrives on digital platforms in time for Transgender Awareness Week (November 13-19), and is perfect for viewing during a week dedicated to helping raise the visibility about transgender people and address the issues members of the community face.
