Sanctuary for Yoga opens second location

On June 17, Sanctuary for Yoga is opening its second location in the Gulch, a downtown complement to their Green Hills studio founded in 2004.

The Gulch location (501 12th Ave. South) is directly across from Urban Outfitters and next door to the Wine Loft. It will feature a full schedule of classes, with select staff members from the Green Hills joining new teachers to give Nashville residents the experience of yoga.

"The recent growth in the Gulch and the vibrant energy there finally convinced us it was time (to open a new location)," says Daphne Larkin, founder of Sanctuary for Yoga. "There are so many great restaurants, living spaces, and retail there already with much more on its way. When I visited the new Turnip Truck location in the Gulch last fall, I knew that it was time to create the space for our community to grow."

"The new studio is urban, beautifully open and clean, and has a different vibe from our Green Hills studio," Larkin adds. "We hope that many of our existing clients will enjoy both studios and are excited to welcome a new clientele who live and work closer to the Gulch."

With four class levels, Sanctuary offers opportunities for beginners and expert alike. The studio also presents special workshops and events designed to teach students how yoga can be key to leading a balanced life.

Group classes are not the only option at Sanctuary: private yoga instruction is available to those who prefer a customized routine, and corporate programs have proven popular with a number of companies as an added benefit for their employees.

"The studio has expanded in many ways over the years," Larkin says. "An incredible community has formed around the studio that includes some of Nashville's best teachers and a diverse group of students. We all feel so happy to be able to come together and share the practice of yoga."

National Margarita Day

A lot of us have really picked up an interest in tequila and it's no wonder. Its popularity is soaring in the U.S. and doesn't look like it'll be slowing down any time soon. The only contender would probably be whiskey. Meh, but they have their own day. Now, it's National Margarita Day and we put together some of the best margarita recipes around so you can pick one or maybe even all of them to try.

We have a few surprises in there too. Maybe it's not all about tequila but it certainly has a theme going on. Take a look at some of these great tequila brands and start making some amazing margaritas today!

Gender-Inclusive Universities and Student Privacy

For many students, attending university is a profound, often life-changing, transition. It is often the student’s first time living on their own without parental supervision. This lifestyle is also accompanied by a period of self-discovery, of defining and redefining a sense of personal identity largely independent of the influence of family and friends from home.

For students who are members of the LGBTQ+ community, this rite of passage can also be a deeply empowering one. Indeed, attending university may be the student’s first real opportunity to explore their gender identity in a safe, comfortable, and accepting college.

I had the opportunity to visit Mexico for an event José Cuervo was putting on, the unveiling of their premium tequila brand, Reserva de la Familia. The trip was all about tequila, how to drink it properly, how to pair it with food, and of course, visiting various points of interest in Guadalajara while tasting tequila along the way.
