2015 Pride Round-Up

With the 2015 Phoenix Pride festival and parade behind us, and National LGBT Pride Month right around there corner, there's no reason to not celebrate Pride.

Whether you're road-tripping or jet-setting in the coming months, there's always a Pride celebration near by. Here's a listing of some (not all) of the 2015 Pride festivals and parades around the country:

For 40 Years, Capital Pride has brought a safe space to the people of the District of Columbia. The event offers a look into the national capital's LGBT history, an interfaith service, a women's spoken word concert, culinary events, a marathon, a Heroes Gala, the Mr. & Miss Capital Pride competition and more.

The 19th annual West Virginia Pride will kick off June 4 with a Glamp Out and Pride Bingo. Other weekend festivities include the 4th Annual Charity Drag Race, meet-and-greets, a big gay dog show, the Pride parade and festival and more.

With the theme, "Love is the Cure, the 2015 Kansas City Pridefest brings entertainment, the Kansas City Gay Pride Royalty Court, an interfaith service, exhibitors and community members for a weekend of celebrating. According to the website, "Gay Pride Kansas City is a mix of volunteers and board members who represent a wide cross section of the Kansas City LGBTQIA community."

Circle City IN Pride is Indiana's largest Pride festival and celebration of LGBT history. The event will also feature performances from drag star Bianca Del Rio.

June 5-14 | Boston Pride | Boston |

Grammy-award winner Estelle will headline the 2015 Boston Pride festival, Kevin Yee, Billy Gilman, Johnny Blazes and The Pretty Boys, Mary Lambert, Nhojj, and Jack Romanov will also perform. Bostonians have promoted this year's Pride week, which will include a block party, a pageant, parade and more, with the hashtag #WickedProud.

Known as California's Capital Pride, the Sacramento Pride includes the annual parade and festival, which will feature performances by Belinda Carlisle, Cazwell and more.

For more than 40 years, Motor City Pride, the largest LGBT event in Michigan, will feature five stages of local and national entertainment, an annual parade and festival.

Billed as Minnesota's "Small-Town Gay Pride," East Central Minnesota Pride celebrates it's 11th anniversary in 2015. The collection of small towns between the state’s two-largest metropolitan areas – the Twin Cities and Duluth – reports a growing LGBT community.

The 19th annual Brooklyn Pride parade and festival will feature performances by 20 local and national entertainers, a 5k Pride run, kid space, flag raising and reception.

Entertainment for the eighth annual event includes Bianca del Rio, all-girl band Catfight, local DJs and electronic/R&B artist Tunde Olaniran. The event will also feature the “Miss or Mister Kalamazoo Pride 2015” local drag competition.

In its 45th year, the "TLGB" Pride celebration in West Hollywood will include a parade, a Latino Carnival, an all-new VIP Experience, a Art & Culture Pavilion and performances by Tamar Braxton, Ke$ha, Fifth Harmony and Ana Barbara. Albuquerque Pride is the ninth most attended event in New Mexico, according to New Mexico Business Weekly. For 2015, the festivities will include a candle light vigil, an art show featuring local artists, Pride parade and Pridefest.

The Syracuse, NY Pride Festival, Central New York's LGBT festival, is hosted by CNY Pride. With "Celebrating The Colors of Our Past, Creating the Pride of Our Future" as this year's theme, the festivities will take place at the Inner Harbor and will include vendors, entertainment and a half-mile parade through the scenic park near Onondaga Lake.

Rhode Island's largest Pride event includes a Pridefest and an illuminated light parade. As one of the largest Pride parades in the country, Chicago draws crowds of more than 700,000 gathering to watch as the parade takes place over a four-mile route. "Yesterday's Struggle is Tomorrow's Heritage" is the theme of this year's New York City Pride. The week of events include a family night, an exclusive event for women, a Pride Rally, the fifth anniversary of the VIP Rooftop Party, a burlesque masquerade, Pridefest, an annual street fair of vendors and entertainers; and more.

Since 1988, Nashville PRIDE has grown from its activism-centered roots and drawn larger crowds every year. This year's festival concert will feature performances by Mya, Cazwell, St. Lucia, The Veronicas, Chad Michaels and more.

Augusta Pride kicks off on June 26 with Beats on Board, the largest outdoor dance party in the city. Then, on June 27, the celebration continues with the annual Pride parade, followed by the all-day Pride festival.

June 26-28 | Harlem Pride | Harlem, New York | harlempride.org

While this celebration of LGBT Pride is just getting started, this year marks the fifth annual Harlem Pride, the event has gained significant attention in the area. Harlem Pride kicks off at Pier 83, near the Hudson River, with up-close views of the Manhattan skyline and the Statue of Liberty.

According to the website, "San Francisco Pride has been said to be 'one of the last remaining pride events that can truly be called a rite of passage.'" With more than 200 parade contingents, 300 exhibitors, and more than 20 stages and venues, the San Francisco LGBT Pride celebration and parade combine to create "the largest LGBT gathering in the nation." The event theme for the 44th annual San Francisco Pride celebration and parade is "Equality Without Exception."

Each year, the San Diego LGBT Pride Parade, one of the biggest in the U.S., attracts more than 100,000 spectators from all over the world, and runs through 1.1 miles of San Diego. The weekend itinerary will also include a rally, a music festival, a block party and more.

Celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, Baltimore Pride has developed from its small rallying roots into Maryland's largest LGBT event, with crowds of more than 30,000 attendees annually, according to the Baltimore Pride website. Stay tuned for entertainment and event details.

When I started medical transition at 20 years old, it was very difficult to get the care I needed for hormone replacement therapy because there are very few providers trained in starting hormones for trans people, even though it’s very similar to the hormones that we prescribe to women in menopause or cisgender men with low testosterone.

I hope more providers get trained in LGBTQ+ healthcare, so they can support patients along their individual gender journey, and provide the info needed to make informed decisions about their body. I’ve personally seen my trans patients find hope and experience a better quality of life through hormone replacement therapy.
