NPS Pharmacy Celebrates Diversity of Leadership Team

NPS Pharmacy, a leading specialty pharmacy focusing on serving the LGBTQ+, HIV/AIDS, and behavioral health communities, hires first openly gay individual to join the leadership team. John D. Winnett has been named Chief Strategy & Public Policy Officer. Winnett will drive the strategic growth strategy for NPS Pharmacy and will also oversee government relations, marketing, and charitable giving.

Winnett comes to NPS Pharmacy with 15 years of senior management and government relations experience, including over a decade as a strategic growth expert helping organizations reach beyond even their stretch goals for expansion.

“John is an accomplished executive with a long and successful track record of driving organizational growth through strategic partnerships and relationships. His expertise will play a critical role as we continue our intense focus on delivering excellent service to our partner organizations and clients. And growing to become the leader among 340B specialty pharmacies,” said Kevin Hartman, NPS Pharmacy founder & chief executive officer.

Winnett, a Tennessee native, is a leading activist for HIV/AIDS treatment and prevention. He serves on the board of directors for Dining Out For Life International and is the board president. Dining Out For Life is an international fundraising event that raises over $4M annually for 50 HIV and LGBTQ+ organizations. Winnett holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from Cumberland University.

Prior to joining NPS Pharmacy, he served in executive leadership roles at the Society for Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanic and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS), the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), Boys & Girls Clubs, Nashville CARES, and Kappa Sigma Fraternity. Winnett assumed his new role at NPS Pharmacy in May 2020. NPS Pharmacy is headquartered in Brentwood, Tennessee and primarily serves clients in Tennessee and Kentucky.

Gender-Inclusive Universities and Student Privacy

For many students, attending university is a profound, often life-changing, transition. It is often the student’s first time living on their own without parental supervision. This lifestyle is also accompanied by a period of self-discovery, of defining and redefining a sense of personal identity largely independent of the influence of family and friends from home.

For students who are members of the LGBTQ+ community, this rite of passage can also be a deeply empowering one. Indeed, attending university may be the student’s first real opportunity to explore their gender identity in a safe, comfortable, and accepting college.
