Mansfield shot and killed near his East Nashville home

Eric Scott Mansfield, 33, the partner of O&AN News Writer David Miller, was shot to death in his car on Friday, November 11.

Visitation will be held at Roesch Patton Funeral Home, 1715 Broadway, Nashville, TN (615-244-6480) on Monday Nov. 14 from 6 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday, Nov. 15 from 11 a.m to 1 p.m. Funeral services are set for Tuesday at 1 p.m. A $25,000 reward has been posted by Mansfield's employer, Warner Bros. Records in Nashville, to help find his killer.

According to Metro police reports, Mansfield placed a call to Miller around 6:35 p.m. to find out if their driveway at their home on Greenwood Avenue was full. After their brief conversation, he went looking for a parking spot on the street. When Miller didn’t hear back from him after more than 20 minutes passed, he went out to look for him.

Miller found their 2002 Volkswagen Jetta pulled over near the intersection of Chapel and Greenwood Avenues. With Mansfield unresponsive, Miller broke through the window to get in. He found him with a gunshot wound to his chest, according to police.

Metro Police detectives believe Mansfield was shot through an open door, and robbery may have been the motive. He was pronounced dead at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

“The community is in shock right now and our hearts go out to David, and their family,” said Jerry Jones, publisher of O&AN. “I don’t think you could find a better person than Eric. This was a senseless act of violence that has robbed our community.”

Mansfield has worked with Warner Bros. Records in Nashville since 1996 and edited the 1998 Faith album for country superstar Faith Hill. He was director of creative services with Warner Bros.

The Tennessean reported that Warner Bros. Nashville Executive Vice President Bill Bennett said that Warner Bros. Records will contribute $25,000 to Crime Stoppers to help find Mansfield's killer.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME. Callers can remain anonymous.

Nurse Practitioner Ari Kravitz

When I started medical transition at 20 years old, it was very difficult to get the care I needed for hormone replacement therapy because there are very few providers trained in starting hormones for trans people, even though it’s very similar to the hormones that we prescribe to women in menopause or cisgender men with low testosterone.

I hope more providers get trained in LGBTQ+ healthcare, so they can support patients along their individual gender journey, and provide the info needed to make informed decisions about their body. I’ve personally seen my trans patients find hope and experience a better quality of life through hormone replacement therapy.
