When Austin Peay Senior, Adam Haynes, was a young boy living in Morristown, TN, he was not your typical kid who dreamed of becoming an astronaut or a treasure hunter. Instead, he had a different sort of adventure in mind.
“As long as I can remember I’ve loved law and politics,” Haynes said. Now, the boy has grown into a man and is well on his way to making a difference for his community by becoming a lawyer and politician.
In April 2009, Haynes was elected as President of the Tennessee Federation of College Democrats. Since then, 20 new chapters have been added in addition to the six already established. This, Haynes said, has been his greatest achievement. He said that getting college students involved in the politics that run their lives is a tough feat since education can be such a heavy burden.
“Sometimes that doggone education keeps you too busy,” Haynes said. “But we just need to keep developing chapters and making sure that
we know what we are doing.”
Jordan Huffman, Vice President of the TFCD, works closely with Haynes and said that he couldn’t ask for a better person to work with.
“Adam always takes the time to talk to individual members one on one, should they request it,” Huffman said. “He is always just a phone call away.”
The two have worked together for two and a half years, and plan on continuing to do so in the future. Both Haynes and Huffman plan on attending law school.
“We’ve talked about starting a law firm together,” Huffman said. “And I see it as a great possibility.”
Haynes’ current project consists of raising awareness of the ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ (DADT) policy. In coordination with chapters and campuses all over the country, the TFCD will work to raise awareness within their districts and with their state representatives as to why DADT is a bad policy and should be overturned.
“It’s not the equality that our forefathers fought for,” Haynes said. “I feel there’s a need for it and I believe that ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ will end this year.”
Adam Haynes is a small-town boy with dreams to serve his community. Eventually he wants to open a law firm, become a father, and do what he can to help those around him.
“I am who I am,” Haynes said. “You’ve just got to be yourself.”

In case you weren’t aware, there are edibles out there that can get you high, feel good, and relaxed. Others are made specifically for relaxation, sleep, or even anxiety.

Dad Grass CBD Tincture
The Dad Grass brand has several product forms but the one I tried was the tincture. With the tincture and dropper, you simply place drops under your tongue about 30 minutes before bed. It’s made using 100% organic hemp flower grown in the U.S., and doesn’t include any herbicides, pesticides, or additives.
It does have a high dose of CBD and CBN (slightly psychoactive) but I found that the grassy smell and flavor didn’t make me high. Rather, it gave me a calming feeling and I felt relaxed enough to fall asleep. It has a grassy smell and the flavor is what you would expect to taste like; grassy and slightly bitter. It wasn’t my favorite, but it’s a passing moment and not completely horrible to taste.
Really, the hardest part was placing it under your tongue for 30 seconds. You immediately begin to salivate and your instinct is to swallow. I don’t know how effective it is to do this, so I tried swallowing it immediately as well as placing it sublingually. To be honest, I don’t know if I could tell the difference. Further testing is required.

For me, this was the best type of edible because it had a bit more kick to it due to the added THC. The packaging says 100 mg of THC but really each square is 10 mg each with 10 squares of chocolate. The S’mores Infused Edibles solves two problems at once. Chocolatey snack for the sweet tooth and sleep-inducing qualities from the THC. Usually, you can take half a square to a full square to figure out which dosage works best for you.
One square a night right before bed and you’re good to go (to sleep). They do offer several other options with THC and some with a combination of THC and CBD for added effect. I’m not a huge fan of S’mores but in chocolate bar form, they were pretty good.
I always say I’m not a sweets kind of person but then they show me chocolate and I’m a goner. The packaging is childproof and funny. They make the jokes like Boom. Roasted. At least I hope it’s a joke because that’s what I take it at. You’re high Clairee…Anyway, they have several types of edible products to choose from like hard candies, gummies, and sours. The downside is that you’re paying a lot for 10 squares of chocolate mixed with THC. Definitely not a deal breaker but for a month’s supply, that could add up.

It's a bit more earthy with a bit more of a bite but it works. It's also made from blue agave, but not restricted to just blue agave like tequila, but just about any species of agave. The process is similar but the flavor is distinct.

- 1 ounce Rosemary syrup
- 0.5 ounce Lemon juice
