Tornadoes, non-stop rain and baseball-size hail have seemingly plagued Nashville, but with an Art Splash forecast for the weekend, hopefully things are looking up. Moves and Grooves is excited to announce that the 2020 Art Splash Gala this Saturday, March 7, 2020, at the Vanderbilt Student Life Center, will be the best yet, with its Gatsby theme!
There will be an elegant cocktail reception from 6-7:00 p.m., with a silent auction featuring a sampling of some of Nashville's most beloved artists, as well as gifts and services from some of Nashville's favorite spots. The evening includes an elegant dinner prepared by Chef Penelope, award presentations, and a show-stopping performance by the youth of Moves and Grooves, followed by a live DJ after party.
Moves and Grooves is a small non-profit dedicated to giving under-served youth an opportunity to explore healthy living and learning through the arts. Their mission is to use the ARTS as a platform to engage youth in self-exploration while providing opportunities for leadership, education and service and to provide youth an escape from the reality of poverty and open a world where self-expression and creativity are welcomed. Moves and Grooves is a 501c3 non-profit agency providing after school and summer arts education programs free of charge to students K-8th grades, five days a week, in 6 Davidson County schools.
Research shows that after-school programs can play an important role in encouraging physical activity and good dietary habits in children. Participation in after-school programs has been associated with positive health outcomes, improvements in children's personal, social and academic skills, as well as their self-esteem.
Moves and Grooves uses the power of dance to educate and promote academic activity for youth and children throughout Middle Tennessee. The organization is committed to building young people of civility and character. Year-round programs focus on physical fitness, education, arts and youth leadership in order to produce confident and competent adults who contribute greatly to society. Moves and Grooves is committed to enhancing the lives young people through arts, academics, character development, fitness and nutrition, all by incorporating the power of dance.
All of the funds raised at the Art Splash Gala will be used to off-set the costs of after-school and summer programs serving over 1600 under-served youth. The Dance Academy of Science and Health (D.A.S.H.) Summer Program provides dance intervention services age 5-15 as a way to combat childhood obesity. The camp integrates contemporary dance styles and techniques to present traditional Math and Science in a non-traditional way.
This high-energy Great Gatsby event will be hosted by Anna Marie of Mix 92.9 and will also honor Nashville's community leaders who are making an impact in the areas of arts education, community service, philanthropy and arts advocacy. Honorees include Dr. Shawn Joseph, Promise Sawyers, Jack Isenhour and Arthur Kirkby.
Tickets are still available to this semi-formal event (black-tie optional, Great Gatsby-themed attire is suggested). Doors open at 5:30 p.m. The program begins at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $125 per person. Valet parking will be available or guests can use the exclusive Lyft code 2020ARTSPLASH to get 15% off rides.
