Following the success of DAVIS' first original holiday song "Box It Up" in 2016, Nashville-based recording artist DAVIS has released his second original holiday song, "Favorite Time of Year", with the help of Indian producer Narayan.

The MTV Real World 2006 alum Davis Mallory has now traded TV cameras for a DJ booth and a microphone, proving that he defies categorization. As a music artist, DAVIS got his start in the industry after living in New York City where he worked as the Marketing Coordinator at Astralwerks Records (label home to David Guetta, Swedish House Mafia, Kylie Minogue). It was there that he attended a lot of DJ sets, learned to DJ at Dubspot School of Electronic Music, and began songwriting. In 2013, he left Astralwerks and moved to Nashville to pursue songwriting and begin recording his own original music.

“The great thing about Nashville is practically everyone moves here for music: your coffee shop barista, your Uber driver … everyone is a musician. And, it’s a very collaborative city, where people make shirts jokingly say “We should write together” since everyone writes songs together as a trial date.” In his first few years in Nashville, Mallory wrote an incredible amount of songs. In his first two years, he wrote music with Roger Murrah (BMI Songwriter of the Decade), Scot Sax (Grammy winner for Tim McGraw/Faith Hill’s “Like We Never Loved At All”), Matraca Berg (3-time Grammy nominated songwriter for Dixie Chicks, Kenny Chesney, Martina McBride), Robert Ellis Orrall (producer of Taylor Swift’s debut album) and many more up-and-coming artists.

“I guess if I had to describe myself, I would say I’m a pop singer-songwriter. My influences blend with Country, being based in Nashville for a long time and raised in Georgia, but I gravitate towards EDM music. I like Shawn Mendes and John Mayer style music, but then Calvin Harris style productions. Even Prince has a big influence on my music at times, with a Pop-Rock Synth Pop space," DAVIS reveals.

Since moving to Nashville, DAVIS has worked with some of the biggest names in the music business, producing his EP Loud in 2017, and co-writing a song with American Idol alum Matt Giraud titled “Faded” (2017); co-writing “Hold Me Down” (2018) by EDM vocalist Notelle and German DJ Noize Generation; co-writing “Top of the World” (2018) by vocalist Mitchell Rose and DJ Landis that released in 2018 on Sony/Thrive, “Dance with Me” co-written by Mallory and produced by French DJ Loic Penillo, “Thinking of U” which was signed to Warner Denmark’s Quattro Records, and featured in many Spotify House playlists.

He’s also had several of his tracks remixed by world-renowned DJ’s, including Miami’s DJ Landis who remixed “Loud” (Cedric Gervais’ label Delecta Records), Swedish DJ Kaag who produced “Pitter Patter” (Warner Denmark’s Quattro Records), Algerian DJ Randall who remixed “Sun and Moon” (Chicago record label Kitchin Records), Peruvian DJ Aaron Marz who produced “Lost,” and many others.“In addition to these varied DJ collaborations, I have been writing for my own debut album and am finishing up with the songs and production with a Swedish producer named Johannes Andersson. I wrote most of the songs while in Stockholm on 3 separate writing trips in 2017-2018.”

Raised singing in his church choir in Georgia during his adolescence, DAVIS is now sober for just over four years, and dedicates time to help others recover from addictions, too. He also helps raise awareness about mental health.

Gender-Inclusive Universities and Student Privacy

For many students, attending university is a profound, often life-changing, transition. It is often the student’s first time living on their own without parental supervision. This lifestyle is also accompanied by a period of self-discovery, of defining and redefining a sense of personal identity largely independent of the influence of family and friends from home.

For students who are members of the LGBTQ+ community, this rite of passage can also be a deeply empowering one. Indeed, attending university may be the student’s first real opportunity to explore their gender identity in a safe, comfortable, and accepting college.

I had the opportunity to visit Mexico for an event José Cuervo was putting on, the unveiling of their premium tequila brand, Reserva de la Familia. The trip was all about tequila, how to drink it properly, how to pair it with food, and of course, visiting various points of interest in Guadalajara while tasting tequila along the way.
