Community Service and Voting

Our cover this month features the wonderful Andy Chambers, also known as Founding Sister Glamarama Ding Dong in the City of Fountains Sisters.

We originally covered this group in 2016 when it was forming. https://kansascity.outvoices.us/2016/06/22/the-city-of-fountain-sisters/

After two years of service in our community, the group of men is celebrating their promotion to a full-fledged house affiliated with the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence in San Francisco. Their weekend extravaganza will be Oct. 11-14.

Around town, you can also see our City of Fountains Sisters at PrideFest, Transgender Day of Awareness, and many other events. including their monthly Tea Dance at Sidestreets Bar.

We thank this group for all they do in our community.

Plan to vote in November

We have an important election coming up in November.

If you are eligible to vote in the Third U.S. House District in Kansas, please come out and cast your ballot for Sharice Davids, who is openly LGBTQ and running against incumbent U.S. Rep. Kevin Yoder. The Yoder campaign has been nasty and full of lies against Davids. More than ever, it will be important to show that your vote counts and ensure that Davids wins.

In the legislative races in Kansas, two Democratic LGBTQ candidates are running for the House: Susan Ruiz is running in the 23rd District, which covers Shawnee, Lenexa, and Overland Park, and Brandon Woodard is running in the 30th District, which covers Olathe and Lenexa.

In Missouri, openly gay candidate Mitch Weber is running in state House District 13.

You can support these candidates through your donations at: https://secure.actblue.com and http://mitchformissouri.org.

Two more important races in Kansas and Missouri are the governor’s race in Kansas, where Democrat Laura Kelly needs your vote, and the U.S. Senate race in Missouri, where incumbent Sen. Claire McCaskill, a Democrat, needs your support against Josh Hawley, a Republican who is now the state attorney general.

We will include more information in the November issue of Camp, including any endorsements from Equality Kansas or PROMO.

WhistlePig + Alfa Romeo F1

SHOREHAM, VT (September 13, 2023) — WhistlePig Whiskey, the leaders in independent craft whiskey, and Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake are waving the checkered flag on a legend-worthy release that’s taking whiskey to G-Force levels. The Limited Edition PiggyBack Legends Series: Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake Barrel is a high Rye Whiskey selected by the Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake drivers, with barrels trialed in their wind tunnel to ensure a thrilling taste in every sip.

The third iteration in WhistlePig’s Single Barrel PiggyBack Legends Series, the Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake Barrel is bottled at 96.77 proof, a nod to Valtteri Bottas’ racing number, 77, and the precision of racing. Inspired by Zhou Guanyu, the first Chinese F1 driver, this Rye Whiskey is finished with lychee and oolong tea. Herbal and floral notes of the oolong tea complement the herbaceous notes of WhistlePig’s signature PiggyBack 100% Rye, rounded out with a juicy tropical fruit finish and a touch of spice.

by Spectrum Medical Care Center

Nurse Practitioner Ari Kravitz

When I started medical transition at 20 years old, it was very difficult to get the care I needed for hormone replacement therapy because there are very few providers trained in starting hormones for trans people, even though it’s very similar to the hormones that we prescribe to women in menopause or cisgender men with low testosterone.

I hope more providers get trained in LGBTQ+ healthcare, so they can support patients along their individual gender journey, and provide the info needed to make informed decisions about their body. I’ve personally seen my trans patients find hope and experience a better quality of life through hormone replacement therapy.
