ComedySportz Goes All-Out for Pride

ComedySportz Theater Chicago is celebrating Pride this year all online. Loyal fans and new fans across the world can log onto CSz Theater Chicago’s Twitch channel (twitch.tv/csznchicago) for multiple comedy Pride options in June.

All-queer cast shows, D&I talks and virtual Rainbow-A-Go-Go included. 

Show offerings include all-queer ComedySportz Chicago matches, D&I Talks with our Director of Diversity and Inclusion Luis Cortes, an LGBTQ-based trivia show, and a special subscriber-only queer variety show: Rainbow-A-Go-Go. The month concludes with Pride weekend featuring LGBTQ ComedySportz ensemble members from ComedySportz locations around the world, joining us in four fabulously funny matches.

“As we continue to push ourselves to be a theater that is reflective of the city and world that we live in, events like our Pride month help not only shine a spotlight on the LGBTQ communities, but also highlights our extremely talented queer players, which make up a large portion of our ensemble” says ComedySportz Chicago Artistic Director Jason Geis.

“By supplementing our performances with what I call “edu-tainment” (D&i Talks, Trivia shows) our audiences are gaining a larger understanding of communities outside of their own, and it's actually led to so much more self-policing and respect when it comes to the remarks and conversations in our online chat. It’s been very cool to watch the process,” adds Cortes.

When I started medical transition at 20 years old, it was very difficult to get the care I needed for hormone replacement therapy because there are very few providers trained in starting hormones for trans people, even though it’s very similar to the hormones that we prescribe to women in menopause or cisgender men with low testosterone.

I hope more providers get trained in LGBTQ+ healthcare, so they can support patients along their individual gender journey, and provide the info needed to make informed decisions about their body. I’ve personally seen my trans patients find hope and experience a better quality of life through hormone replacement therapy.
