The 18 th Annual Out on Film, the South’s premier GLBT Film Festival will present a unique independent cinematic experience with more than 50 films November 11-17. Presented by Turner Broadcasting and Fulton County Arts Council this November 11-17, 2005 , Out On Film will attract fans of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender cinema to Midtown Atlanta for seven days of independent films and Opening, Closing and Black In The Life parties. This year’s Out On Film will be shown at Landmark’s Midtown Art Cinema in two movie theatres with increased seating capacity. The 18 th Annual Out On Film will feature a more diverse selection of films, with an African-American short film series and international releases from India , Israel , United Kingdom , Argentina and Germany . Attendees will have the luxury of ordering beer and wine at the Midtown Art Cinema ’s newly installed bar.
“It is well worth the trip to Atlanta from Nashville not only because it’s a great place to visit,” said Garrin Hirschhorn Marketing/PR Director of IMAGE Film & Video Center representing the Festival. “There is nowhere else in the south where GLTB audiences will find so impressive a line-up of independent films that are made just for them.”
Beginning Saturday, November 12, at least four films will screen each day, covering a wide range of styles, subjects and perspectives including animation, narrative, documentary and short films of the highest artistic quality. On Thursday, November 17 th, Out On Film winds down with the Closing Film, Adam & Steve, the directorial debut by gay Hollywood actor Craig Chester. The press has called it the gay “There’s Something About Mary”, inspired by the work of Woody Allen, John Waters and the Wayans brothers. After a disastrous one night stand almost 15 years previously, Adam & Steve have a chance meeting and whirlwind romance ensues. Adam & Steve features standout performances by notable cast members Parker Posey (the “Queen of Independent Films”) and Chris Kattan (SNL alum) who play a straight couple. With a stellar supporting cast, including Sally Kirkland, Paul Sand, Melinda Dillon, and Julie Hagerty – as well as many talented and hysterical unknowns, Adam & Steve is a film not to be missed.

Explorations (Boys Shorts) - A collection of the best boys shorts on the GLBT film festival circuit. The program includes short film LATCHKEY, winner of the best short award at New Festival 2005: New York’s Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, about two brothers, one straight, one gay, who plot for an afternoon with someone special; and RYAN’S LIFE, voted OUTstanding Narrative Short Film at Outfest 2005 (Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian film festival), about a 16-year old high school student who battles with his coming out process in this Boy-Meets-World style comedy. At the Midtown Art Cinema on Saturday, November 12 at 4:00 p.m.
Making Changes (Girls Shorts) – A group of short films with lesbian content, including films such as WHO’S THE TOP (by PARIS IS BURNING director Jennie Livingston), about a struggling poet and sexually frustrated lesbian who is tired of being the top, SOLO, an animated short about a girl who goes to a bar and dances solo, and BREAKING UP REALLY SUCKS, a film about one woman’s quest to find everlasting love. At the Midtown Art Cinema , Sunday, November 13 at 4:30 p.m.
Retrospective – Featuring, PARIS IS BURNING, a pioneering insight into the lives of New York ’s transvestite drag ball scene. The screening will be introduced by Alonso Duralde, author of “101 Must-See Movies for Gay Men” and Arts & Entertainment Editor for The Advocate. At the Midtown Art Cinema , Sunday, November 13 at 3:30 p.m.
DykeTrospective – Features JUST THE TWO OF US, an early exploitation flick originally released in 1970 under the title, “THE DARK SIDE OF TOMORROW”. Tells the story of a pair of lonely housewives who fall into bed together after seeing a lesbian couple holding hands at a restaurant on Sunset Boulevard. At the Midtown Art Cinema on Sunday, November 13 at 7:00 p.m.
International Lesbian Centerpiece UNVEILED, tells the story of Fariba, an Iranian political refugee who cannot remain in Iran because of her love for another woman. International Gay Centerpiece – SUMMERSTORM, the International Gay Centerpiece film and crossover box office hit in Germany , is a coming of age sensual drama portraying the pain and excitement of first love. GLBTs in Sports – Films that show the world that being gay and playing sports are not mutually exclusive. Includes GUYS & BALLS, A KNOCKOUT, SUMMERSTORM and 100% WOMAN at the Midtown Art Cinema on Wednesday, November 16 at 9:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m , Sunday, November 13 at 9:00 p.m. and Saturday, November 12 at 1:30 p.m.

The Journey – The Journey is the first Indian film since Deepa Mehta’s FIRE to elegantly and colorfully depict a lesbian relationship. At the Midtown Art Cinema on Tuesday, November 15 at 6:30 p.m.
