Artrageous celebrates the art of caring

“Shaken, Not Stirred” has been announced as the 2006 theme for the annual Artrageous fundraiser, with organizers saying a new focus would be directed towards art.

Along with the theme, Todd Shelton, Jason Horn and David Glasgow have been named co-chairs of the event, to be held on November 11. Charles Priddy will serve as this year’s designer.

The Artrageous 2005 thank you party for volunteers, hosts and sponsors took place June 8 in the gardens at the home of Allen DeCuyper and Steve Sirls.

President of the Artrageous board of directors Jon Glassmeyer presented awards to Artrageous 18 Co-Chairs Jennifer and Mark Chalos, Steven Murff and Todd Shelton and unveiled the date and theme for 2006.

“Artrageous 0019 has been set for Saturday November 11th and promises to be a year of reinvention and renewal,” said Glassmeyer.

“Back in January of this year, a group of former event chairs, gallery owners, artists came to the unanimous conclusion that the Gallery Tour is what sets Artrageous apart from all other fundraisers in Nashville. To that end we are truly focusing the event toward art and the galleries.”

He added that the first step is to extend the Gallery Tour by one hour. The second step will be at the Host Party on Friday October 27 at Cheekwood’s Frist Learning Center.

“Last year's Host Party live auction was such a success that we will be expanding it and adding a small silent auction during the host party at Cheekwood,” said Glassmeyer. “Having these auctions before the actual event should also encourage more Artrageous participants to purchase art the night of the main event.”

The late party, which provides an opportunity to cap off the evening with friends and dancing, will be held at City Hall in the Gulch. The change in venue puts the late party at the heart of the gallery tour and in one of the most vibrant entertainment areas of Nashville while enabling more funds to be donated to Nashville CARES.

Information on Artrageous 0019 will be regularly updated over the summer at www.artrageous.org and at www.outandaboutnewspaper.com.

Nurse Practitioner Ari Kravitz

When I started medical transition at 20 years old, it was very difficult to get the care I needed for hormone replacement therapy because there are very few providers trained in starting hormones for trans people, even though it’s very similar to the hormones that we prescribe to women in menopause or cisgender men with low testosterone.

I hope more providers get trained in LGBTQ+ healthcare, so they can support patients along their individual gender journey, and provide the info needed to make informed decisions about their body. I’ve personally seen my trans patients find hope and experience a better quality of life through hormone replacement therapy.
