Actor-turned-chef promises ‘Fresh’ Midtown cafe

MetroFresh, a new restaurant promising “Fresh, Food, Fast,” will open in late September in Atlanta's Midtown neighborhood. MetroFresh is the latest role for actor-turned-chef Mitchell Anderson – who is best known for roles in Party of Five, Doogie Howser MD, and The Karen Carpenter Story.

After a nearly three-year apprenticeship under Jennifer Levison of Souper Jenny in Atlanta's tony Buckhead neighborhood, Anderson says creating and opening MetroFresh is the role of a lifetime.

“Our mission is to provide an urban oasis – a peaceful, friendly atmosphere where guests feel at home,” he says. “MetroFresh will be like walking into my home – into my kitchen. We want to challenge our guests’ palates with the diversity and freshness of the food, while we also feed their minds and spirits!”

MetroFresh’s light, healthy fare is inspired by the freshest market ingredients and flavors from around the world, says the well-traveled actor. The menu of gourmet soups, salads, prepared sandwiches, antipasto and light dinner entrees will change daily. Guests will choose from classic soups like MetroFresh’s own Turkey Chili or Mushroom Barely with Sage and more exotic tastes of Moroccan Chicken Tagine and Jamaican Sweet Potato Shrimp Chowder.

“MetroFresh is South Beach, Atkins, Zone, Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig and Body for Life friendly,” Anderson says, “though we may slip in a drop-dead-incredible, baked, four-cheese macaroni from time to time.”

The restaurant will offer two prepared sandwiches a day – one meat and one vegetarian. Likewise, in addition to the soups and salads, which will be served all day, and which will be available for take out, MetroFresh will offer one vegetarian and one meat dinner entree every evening.

Anderson says he envisions MetroFresh as an after-work destination: The place to go for a glass of wine or a cold beer and a few selections from the antipasto bar.

Though MetroFresh will have a “soft opening” – quietly opening its doors in late September – Anderson says a series of “grand opening” events are planned, beginning soon thereafter. The restaurant’s Web address is

Financial Planning for the LGBTQ+ community

The new year has arrived. For many people, that means making resolutions and thinking of ways they can do better in the coming year and beyond. Money management and financial planning are often very popular resolutions and goals, but most financial advice tends to be aimed at heterosexual couples who want to grow their family and raise children.

But, what if your life goals are different? What if you don’t receive the same protection under the current laws as hetero couples?
What if you don’t want to have kids?
