Whether you’re dressing down from last night or dressing up for belated bashes across the city, the post-Halloween calendar is just as busy as last week’s. Last week the Nashville LGBT Chamber of Commerce successfully hosted its second annual Tastefully Unpredictable, OutCentral celebrated with Autumn Honors (and a renewed membership campaign) and of course Jessi Coggins caught all the awesome costumes at Tribe for their Halloween party.
Welcome to the first November Your Gay Week(end) and it's a bonus sized post because we're wrapping up World Series fever and a Nashville baseball meets queer art senior thesis exhibit at Watkins caught our eye.
Friday November 1
The weather may have scared us away last night but we’ll be front and center tonight for Cake or Death from Kirk-Burgess Productions at the Darkhorse Theatre. The locally written play boasts hippie and sexually revolutionized ghosts, a devilishly handsome (gay) cop and Memory Strong, who proved to be a bright ball of energy when the cast performed scenes last month at OutCentral. We know how everyone loves their showtunes at Tribe on Sundays. Get an extra dose and sing along with all of your favorite Four Seasons songs from “December 1963 (Oh What a Night)” to “Big Girls Don’t Cry” when Jersey Boys serenades TPAC all weekend long. Get tickets here.
In addition to their 30 Americans exhibit, The Frist also welcomes the artwork of Norman Rockwell beginning Friday. Rockwell’s art documented a generation and even inspired the O&AN cover this month (get a sneak peek). Plus the Frist kicks off its holiday tradition of free admission on Mondays with a non-perishable food donation for the Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee.
And don’t forget more than 40,000 total votes have been cast and today marks the last day to vote for Gay Faves.
Saturday November 2
The weather is crisp, the leaves are changing color and what better way (other than sleeping in) is there to enjoy a Tennessee Saturday morning but with a bit of nature? The Red Dress Rampagin’ Grizzlies covered our October cover and this weekend they take on the Charleston Blockade at 1 p.m. in Shelby Park. Also mark your calendars for their calendar release on Friday November 15.
Sunday November 3
Looking for laughter with a side of faith? How about Humor Sunday? On Sunday November 3, Unity of Nashville will be celebrating the divine spirit of joy and laughter at their annual Humor Sunday. Both the 9:00am and 11:00am services will offer a positive message, music, video, audience participation and hilarious skits that are written, directed and produced by the Not Ready For Saturday Night Players.

Whether you want to “She Bop” or you just wanna have fun, Cyndi Lauper has the night for you when she celebrates the 30 year anniversary of her debut album She’s So Unusual at TPAC. Tickets are still available here.

It’s that time of year again as the CMA Awards roll into town. Art Alert: Watkins EDU seniors Robert Grand and Jessica Clay reveal their senior thesis projects beginning Friday through November 12. Grand’s Fantasy Team seeks to make a place for the queer viewer in relation to baseball culture. By “queering up” common memorabilia objects and reinterpreting their intended meanings and uses, Grand emphasizes where queer culture and baseball fandom intersect. In My House has 351 Beds, Clay investigates her childhood home, The Calvary Life Fellowship, a Christian commune in southern Alaska. Through the manipulation of found sculptural objects and painterly materials, she traces the history of this place via her memories, found photographs and memorabilia. This weekend explore the mysteries of the human brain, love, and the power of music over both with Michael Nyman’s The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat and the Nashville Opera. Tickets are on sale here for the production’s November 8-10 performances.
