Travel with a Purpose at Patagonia Camp

Luxury travel will never go out of style, but what true ‘luxury’ means has evolved. In 2019 the term ‘luxury’ has shifted its meaning to include travel with purpose. In addition to fabulous amenities, haute cuisine, and impeccable service, luxury has come to encompass travel with a meaningful takeaway. No place excels in every definition of luxury quite like Patagonia Camp in Puerto Natales, Chile.

The luxury ‘glampground’ just outside Torres del Paine National Park is complete with 20 high-end yurts that bring travelers closer to nature, without sacrificing the five-star amenities that make this a truly A-list experience. Connect with the environment in a way like never before, with Lago Toro at your doorstep. Fall asleep to the sound of the wind through the trees and a blanket of stars above your head.

But beyond the premiere and unique accommodations, Patagonia Camp offers a menu of programs that invites visitors to connect with the environment in ways that enrich the mind, teach a skill, and expand horizons.

The entire month of September is a period of celebration of national holidays in Chile. Patagonia Camp pays homage to the customs and people of the country with a rich program that combines culture with the natural beauty. With the all-inclusive program, visitors can discover the landscape of Chilean Patagonia through treks through the national park, a visit to the Salto Grande, or an unforgettable walk along the beach of the Gray Glacier. The camp also includes a horseback ride through the pampas at Patagonia. Be delighted by a beautiful array of Chilean and Patagonian food, as well, from roasted lamb, empanadas, Chilean wine and much more.

And speaking of Chilean wine, those interested in learning more can partake in Patagonia Camp's Wine & Nature Week, a complete luxury experience that combines the wine world of central Chile with the landscapes of Chilean Patagonia. The six-day, five-night experience includes three nights at Patagonia Camp, and two nights at La Casona, a luxury hotel in the vineyards of central Chile. In addition to exploring Torres del Paine, the trip also includes a guided tour of the Vina Matetic winery, where visitors can have an in-depth educational experience to learn about the richness of Chilean wine. Other outdoor excursions in the vineyard includes horseback riding and cycling.

Finding one's center is an incredibly rewarding way to travel with purpose, and yoga is one of the best ways to do so. Patagonia Camp explores yoga through a dedicated retreat that allows visitors to connect with the present. Held in September, the Patagonia Camp Yoga Retreat, held September 8-12, 2019, invites travelers to a space created to reconnect with the inner self through nature and yoga. The practice consists of two daily sessions - one in the morning before venturing out to discover Torres del Paine, and another in the afternoon in order to regroup and process the activities of the day. The all-inclusive program offers buffet breakfast, lunch, and dinner options that include vegetarian, vegan, or gluten-free options as required. There is also an open bar for drinks, house wines, and standard liquors. Daily guided excursions to the park and surroundings are part of the program, as well.

Finally, see the world of Chilean Patagonia through a different lens when visitors actually get behind the lens themselves and become immersed in the world of photography. The Portraits of Patagonia program runs for four nights, September 25-29, 2019, combining the wild nature of the mythical Chilean Patagonia with 100 percent luxury and eco-friendly travel. Over the course of four 'themed' days visitors will learn about everything from the indigenous peoples of early Patagonia, and the history of Puerto Natales, to the flora, forests, and wildlife, while behind the lens learning to capture large shots of nature in the wild. Themes include Ice & Blue; Fauna, Prehistory, Indigenous Peoples; and Textures. Discover cave paintings, impressive monoliths, sweeping landscapes, and wild animals in their natural habitats. Come away having seen Patagonia from a life-changing, eye-opening new perspective.

by Spectrum Medical Care Center

Nurse Practitioner Ari Kravitz

When I started medical transition at 20 years old, it was very difficult to get the care I needed for hormone replacement therapy because there are very few providers trained in starting hormones for trans people, even though it’s very similar to the hormones that we prescribe to women in menopause or cisgender men with low testosterone.

I hope more providers get trained in LGBTQ+ healthcare, so they can support patients along their individual gender journey, and provide the info needed to make informed decisions about their body. I’ve personally seen my trans patients find hope and experience a better quality of life through hormone replacement therapy.
