Nashville recycles for GLBT causes

Cartridge World has teamed up with Diversity Builder (www.diversitybuilder.com) to offer an ongoing recycling fundraising project to support Nashville GLBT nonprofit organizations.

How the program works:

* Save your empty printer and laser cartridges from home or work.

* Call Cartridge World at (615) 771- 7333 from anywhere in the Nashville area and tell them you wish to donate your cartridges to the Nashville GLBT account. They will arrange to pick up the cartridges from you.

* Alternately, you may drop off your empty ink cartridges at  600-B Frazier Drive in Franklin (in the Cold Stone Creamery shopping plaza).

Be sure to mention that you wish to donate your cartridges to the Nashville GLBT account.

Each couple of months a donation will be sent to a GLBT nonprofit, with the first month's proceeds benefiting Nashville's GLBT Chamber of Commerce.

"The Nashville GLBT Chamber is honored to be a recipient of contributions from this program," says Chamber President John Wade. "With such an emphasis on 'things green' these days, for the community to have access to this recycling program and the chamber to benefit financially, this creates a win, win, win. For all those reasons, I hope community members will participate in this program."

Why Recycle? Cartridge World Store Owner, Scott Barker, says, "It requires about a gallon of oil to make one new laser cartridge and approximately 8 cartridges are thrown away every second in the United States alone. Without Nashville residents returning cartridges to us for refilling purposes, our program would not work. We rely heavily on the recycling of printer cartridges."

Anyone interested in supporting the project by placing a cartridge donation bin at their store or business, please call Rachel at 615-424-2323.

Creative Agency Moves Headquarters to Greener Pastures

I Design, a growing creative agency based in Brentwood, has acquired an older East Nashville home to convert to its new headquarters. The structure is located across from the Maddox YMCA on Gallatin Road in East Nashville. The bungalow-style 2000 square foot home will transition into office space using the five existing bedrooms.

"The goal with the new HQ was to establish a much larger and great place to work, as well as an asset for the company, instead of commercial renting," says owner Anthony Davis. "We decided to add green features to the home, as the emerging green movement is so important to I Design, and to Brian (Hamblen) and I personally as owners."

Some of the environmentally friendly changes Davis and Hamblen are making to the building include "keeping the structure as close to its original layout as possible,'" and reviving the existing hardwood floors. Other 'green' highlights include a drip water irrigation system, energy efficient insulation and windows, numerous plant and grass additions, and low energy skylights.

Hamblen and Davis hope to be open for business in their new headquarters in 2007.

I Design (www.idesigninc.net ) is a full service graphic design company, providing web and print design. They specialize in building customized sites to meet any budget and are experts in flash web design, and offer services such as logo design, corporate identity, brochures, Web design, Web hosting, and e-commerce solutions. Owners Hamblen and Davis may be reached at (615) 377-1481.

The third iteration in WhistlePig’s Single Barrel PiggyBack Legends Series, the Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake Barrel is bottled at 96.77 proof, a nod to Valtteri Bottas’ racing number, 77, and the precision of racing. Inspired by Zhou Guanyu, the first Chinese F1 driver, this Rye Whiskey is finished with lychee and oolong tea. Herbal and floral notes of the oolong tea complement the herbaceous notes of WhistlePig’s signature PiggyBack 100% Rye, rounded out with a juicy tropical fruit finish and a touch of spice.

Nurse Practitioner Ari Kravitz

When I started medical transition at 20 years old, it was very difficult to get the care I needed for hormone replacement therapy because there are very few providers trained in starting hormones for trans people, even though it’s very similar to the hormones that we prescribe to women in menopause or cisgender men with low testosterone.

I hope more providers get trained in LGBTQ+ healthcare, so they can support patients along their individual gender journey, and provide the info needed to make informed decisions about their body. I’ve personally seen my trans patients find hope and experience a better quality of life through hormone replacement therapy.
