Lucky's Garage will hold the first in a series of amateur nights hosted by Lucky’s La Cage cast member, Ms. NeCe Sexton, on Thursday, Jan. 18 at 10 p.m.

Lucky’s will welcome to the stage amateurs interested in showcasing their talents. Comedians, drag queens, drag kings, live vocalists and others welcome. The first and third Thursday of every month beginning Jan. 18 will feature the open amateur search with a $50 cash prize to the winner each week. Contestants need only sign up on site by 9:30 pm each day of show. 

Every second and fourth Thursday, beginning Jan. 25 at 10 p.m., Lucky’s will host quarterly Mr. Lucky’s Contests. During the months of Jan., Feb. and Mar. Lucky’s will select a “Mr. Lucky’s Winter ’07” finalist while Apr., May, Jun. will identify a “Mr. Lucky’s Spring ’07” finalist, and so forth. Weekly winners will be chosen by the audience and will earn $50.

“We want to offer variety in entertainment to Nashville,” said Tony Daniel, owner & operations manager. “We’ve had great success with our Mr. Lucky’s and Head Mechanic Strip Off events in the past four months and decided to expand our amateur night offerings.” 

“As usual, there will be no cover charge for these events and Thursdays are 18 to enter and 21 to drink.” Daniel added.

Additional upcoming events include a game night on Tuesday, Jan. 16 and Country Night on Jan. 17. Friday and Saturday, Jan. 19 and 20 will feature the latest performance by the Lucky’s La Cage cast. Lucky’s will open at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 21 with drink specials to last from 2 to 8 p.m.

Lucky’s Garage is open Tuesday through Sunday with no cover charge. Tuesday through Friday features a happy hour from 5 to 8 p.m. with 2 for 1 well drinks and $2 domestic drafts.

Lucky’s Garage is located near the intersection of Church Street and 14th Avenue, next to Hustler Hollywood. The entrance to the club is on the alley and faces Church Street. Free secure parking for the club is located at the back of the building.

Many of us have made resolutions and pledged ourselves to transforming some aspect, or aspects, of our lives. For some, these resolutions will involve career, budget, home ownership, etc., but for a LOT of us, they will involve various health, exercise and fitness goals.

Often, these resolutions are vague, like “lose weight” or “exercise more”, and way too often they begin with a gym contract and end with Netflix and a bag of takeout. Getting specific can help in holding yourself accountable for these commitments, though. So we thought it might be interesting to talk with a local gay trainer, James Mai, about his fitness journey, his work as a trainer and how he keeps himself motivated, and get some of his suggestions for carrying through on this year’s fitness resolutions!
