Leslie named managing editor

Joey Leslie has been named managing editor of Out & About Newspaper. He replaces Brent Meredith, who is leaving this full time role with the GLBT newspaper to take a position with Vanderbilt’s Peabody College of Education and Human Development.

Leslie has won numerous awards from the Kentucky Press Association for business writing and social commentary. He has worked as an intern at The Cincinnati Post and the Appalachian News-Express and also served as assistant features editor for WKU’s College Heights Herald. Leslie obtained a bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Western Kentucky University in May 2007. He began working with Out & About Newspaper as a writer in August ‘07 and took over as advertising sales manager in September 2007.

“I am extremely excited about this opportunity,” Leslie said. “To work on the editorial side has been my goal all along. It’s a wonderful feeling to get back to what I love.”

Out & About Newspaper has also contracted with Nathan Grimes Design of Murfreesboro to handle the monthly production and layout of its print issue.

O&AN is Tennessee’s largest GLBT publication, and provides a monthly print publication, as well as an Internet site that is constantly updated with news. O&AN began publishing in Oct. 2002.

“We’re very excited to have someone with Joey’s credentials to take the editorial helm,” said Jerry Jones, owner and publisher of O & AN. “We promise our readers that we’ll continue to provide the excellent coverage of the GLBT community that they have come to expect.”

Meredith will continue to work with O&AN as a volunteer, in a new position as promotions director. In that role he will coordinate and oversee the many ticket giveaways and promotions that the newspaper is involved with.

"We're delighted to have Brent continue to work with us," Jones said. "We've needed someone to oversee contests and promotions and are excited that he'll continue to work with us and the GLBT community in that role."

WhistlePig + Alfa Romeo F1

SHOREHAM, VT (September 13, 2023) — WhistlePig Whiskey, the leaders in independent craft whiskey, and Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake are waving the checkered flag on a legend-worthy release that’s taking whiskey to G-Force levels. The Limited Edition PiggyBack Legends Series: Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake Barrel is a high Rye Whiskey selected by the Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake drivers, with barrels trialed in their wind tunnel to ensure a thrilling taste in every sip.

The third iteration in WhistlePig’s Single Barrel PiggyBack Legends Series, the Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake Barrel is bottled at 96.77 proof, a nod to Valtteri Bottas’ racing number, 77, and the precision of racing. Inspired by Zhou Guanyu, the first Chinese F1 driver, this Rye Whiskey is finished with lychee and oolong tea. Herbal and floral notes of the oolong tea complement the herbaceous notes of WhistlePig’s signature PiggyBack 100% Rye, rounded out with a juicy tropical fruit finish and a touch of spice.

Nurse Practitioner Ari Kravitz

When I started medical transition at 20 years old, it was very difficult to get the care I needed for hormone replacement therapy because there are very few providers trained in starting hormones for trans people, even though it’s very similar to the hormones that we prescribe to women in menopause or cisgender men with low testosterone.

I hope more providers get trained in LGBTQ+ healthcare, so they can support patients along their individual gender journey, and provide the info needed to make informed decisions about their body. I’ve personally seen my trans patients find hope and experience a better quality of life through hormone replacement therapy.
