Ideas for Things to Do (and Love) in February

Whether you celebrate that mid-February day as the holiday of romance or celebrate being liberated from a relationship, here are just a few ideas about what you can do this month with your significant other, friends or maybe even Mom or Dad. Shake off any blues you might have, and go out and have fun, regardless of the reason for the celebration.
Here are a few suggestions on doing something perhaps a bit different than the typical restaurant reservation.
Val-O-Ween
Heres a great way to celebrate Valentines Day on Feb. 11 and help the AIDS Service Foundation raise money for needed services. Its our cover this issue. Read more about this evening of entertainment in CampBiz on page 4.
Sharps 63rd St. Grill
Marty Junkins is always coming up with a creative way to celebrate the holidays at Sharps in Brookside, and Valentines Day has some great specials. On Saturday night, Feb. 12, they are having a Singles Party in the bar, starting at 7 p.m. On Monday, Valentines Day, they are offering free cheesecake and champagne in the dining room for all couples.

Bistro 303
Gene and Jeffrey are always doing something special at this Westport bar and restaurant, and Im sure Valentines Day will be no different. They serve a delicious brunch on weekends and have nightly specials. Become a friend of Bistro 303 on Facebook and youll be up-to-date on all theyre doing. When that warm weather finally arrives, check out their patio -- its one of the most pleasant in town.

Hamburger Marys
This hamburger hot-spot on Southwest Boulevard has been a hit since opening in Kansas City last year, and Im sure it will be popular on Monday night, Valentines Day. For those not interested in celebrating on the specific day, you might want to go to their Sunday Drag Brunch. Its become very popular. What could be more romantic than a drag queen lip-syncing showtunes in your ear over brunch?

OutABounds
For the slightly cynical among us, OutABounds is having a Cupids Broken Arrow evening on Feb. 14. (They serve great food, so Im sure the romantic diners can still find a nice meal there that night.) On their Facebook page, they say, Come on down to Outabounds for the overly commercialized, unimaginative, poor definition of a romance day. Happy hour from 4-7 with $2 wells. $3 mini pitchers all night long. Specialty drinks: He Loves Me Not, Cupids Broken Arrow. Specialty shot: Love Stinks. Wear all black (from stem to stern) and get a free shot (bartenders choice). Why are we having this event? Because my knight in shining armor turned out to be a loser in aluminum foil.

Magnetic Valley Resort
This mens resort in Eureka Springs, Ark., is a great place to spend time around the private pool when the weathers nice. But its also a great weekend getaway in the off-season if you dont care about sunning, and you benefit from great winter rates. For their winter special, through March 15, all rooms are 25 percent off. This ones good for celebrating both Valentines Day and Mardi Gras.

And while youre at it, help Eureka Springs, our gay mecca of Arkansas, reach the status of one of Americas Coolest Small Towns. Its a city where you can walk hand in hand with your partner down the main streets, with lots of LGBT-owned businesses, and its the home of Diversity Weekends throughout the year. You can vote at this link, and by the way, Greensburg, Kan., where the tornado struck in 2007, is one of the 20 cities spotlighted on this map as well.

WhistlePig + Alfa Romeo F1

SHOREHAM, VT (September 13, 2023) — WhistlePig Whiskey, the leaders in independent craft whiskey, and Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake are waving the checkered flag on a legend-worthy release that’s taking whiskey to G-Force levels. The Limited Edition PiggyBack Legends Series: Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake Barrel is a high Rye Whiskey selected by the Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake drivers, with barrels trialed in their wind tunnel to ensure a thrilling taste in every sip.

The third iteration in WhistlePig’s Single Barrel PiggyBack Legends Series, the Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake Barrel is bottled at 96.77 proof, a nod to Valtteri Bottas’ racing number, 77, and the precision of racing. Inspired by Zhou Guanyu, the first Chinese F1 driver, this Rye Whiskey is finished with lychee and oolong tea. Herbal and floral notes of the oolong tea complement the herbaceous notes of WhistlePig’s signature PiggyBack 100% Rye, rounded out with a juicy tropical fruit finish and a touch of spice.

by Spectrum Medical Care Center

Nurse Practitioner Ari Kravitz

When I started medical transition at 20 years old, it was very difficult to get the care I needed for hormone replacement therapy because there are very few providers trained in starting hormones for trans people, even though it’s very similar to the hormones that we prescribe to women in menopause or cisgender men with low testosterone.

I hope more providers get trained in LGBTQ+ healthcare, so they can support patients along their individual gender journey, and provide the info needed to make informed decisions about their body. I’ve personally seen my trans patients find hope and experience a better quality of life through hormone replacement therapy.

Descanso Resort swimming pool and lounge area

Descanso Resort, Palm Springs' premier destination for gay men, just received Tripadvisor's highest honor, a Travelers' Choice "Best of the Best" award for 2023. Based on guests' reviews and ratings, fewer than 1% of Tripadvisor's 8 million listings around the world receive the coveted "Best of the Best" designation. Descanso ranked 12th in the top 25 small inns and hotels category in the United States. Quite an accomplishment!

Open less than two years, Descanso Resort offers gay men a relaxing and luxurious boutique hotel experience just minutes away from Palm Springs' buzziest restaurants, nightclubs, and shopping. Descanso has quickly established itself as a top destination for sophisticated gay travelers, earning hundreds of 5-star guest reviews and consistently ranking in Trapadvisor's top positions alongside brother properties Santiago Resort and Twin Palms Resort.
