GLSEN of Middle Tennessee is looking for board members

The Gay, Lesbian, & Straight Education Network (GLSEN) of Middle Tennessee is seeking individuals who have demonstrated leadership in youth programming, community organizing, advocacy, and education. Board Members are the decision makers and ambassadors for creating safe schools throughout the Middle Tennessee region. GLSEN has a working Board of Directors and a 100% volunteer-led, non-profit organization. If you have a passion for safe schools, LGBT advocacy, and making learning spaces more welcoming for all students, then this is the opportunity for you.

What do chapter leaders do?

Student & Community Organizing Chapter leaders work with LGBT and ally K-12 students and Gay-Straight Alliances across the region to provide support for development, programming, and sustainability. Youth programming is led by the Jump-Start Student Leadership Team, a group of energetic students who are leaders in their own schools and are committed to spreading the work of GLSEN. Students and supporters engage in various activities throughout the year including Day of Silence, No Name-Calling Week, Ally Week, Transgender Day of Remembrance, as well as other days of action and initiatives that support safe schools.

Policy & Advocacy GLSEN's advocacy efforts occur on the macro level to influence state and federal laws, community ordinances, and local school board policies that create safer learning environments for LGBT youth. On the micro level, GLSEN frequently works directly with educators, counselors, school administrators, and other individuals to ensure the use of best practices for supporting LGBT students in schools and other institutions.

Education Chapter leaders can become certified by GLSEN's National Education Office to facilitate skill-building workshops and other educational and professional development opportunities for teachers, administrators, and other youth-serving individuals using the Safe Space curriculum and related programming. GLSEN's Safe Space campaign provides concrete strategies for supporting LGBT students, including how to educate about anti-LGBT bias.

Sustainability GLSEN Middle Tennessee is entirely volunteer driven. Board members and volunteers must strive to meet annual fundraising goals to support the work of the chapter. One hundred percent of funds raised are directed back into services and programs that support students. Most importantly, chapter leaders must develop and maintain meaningful and fulfilling relationships with a diverse network of community partners in order to sustain our capacity to serve LGBT students across Middle Tennessee!

The third iteration in WhistlePig’s Single Barrel PiggyBack Legends Series, the Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake Barrel is bottled at 96.77 proof, a nod to Valtteri Bottas’ racing number, 77, and the precision of racing. Inspired by Zhou Guanyu, the first Chinese F1 driver, this Rye Whiskey is finished with lychee and oolong tea. Herbal and floral notes of the oolong tea complement the herbaceous notes of WhistlePig’s signature PiggyBack 100% Rye, rounded out with a juicy tropical fruit finish and a touch of spice.

by Spectrum Medical Care Center

Nurse Practitioner Ari Kravitz

When I started medical transition at 20 years old, it was very difficult to get the care I needed for hormone replacement therapy because there are very few providers trained in starting hormones for trans people, even though it’s very similar to the hormones that we prescribe to women in menopause or cisgender men with low testosterone.

I hope more providers get trained in LGBTQ+ healthcare, so they can support patients along their individual gender journey, and provide the info needed to make informed decisions about their body. I’ve personally seen my trans patients find hope and experience a better quality of life through hormone replacement therapy.
