Golf is a luxurious game! It’s known for being a gentleman's sport, a business deal-maker, and the most well-dressed sport out there.

How can you make it more luxurious, you may ask? Well, some of the best golf courses in the world are just a charter plane away.

If you or your partner is an avid golfer, why not take a quick flight to one of the most luxurious golf courses? Play a round, have a delicious meal, and fly back home as the sun sets for a romantic and unforgettable experience.

Here are some golf courses near airports across the country that you may consider taking an outing to. Many of these are private courses, but some scouting before you arrive is likely to find a member willing to put you up.

Flint Hills National Golf Club, Kansas

If you’re looking for an all-round top-notch luxury experience, Flint Hills National Golf Club is it. You’ll need to be accompanied by a member, but it’s well worth finding someone to sponsor you for a round with your partner.

The course is pristine and surrounded by trees. Numerous bunkers lie in wait for unsuspecting players, but the (mostly) fairly straight fairways can make for an advantage if you get your drive right. Keep an eye out for the southern wind, which could throw you off-course.

Not only is the course great for all skill levels, but the service is renowned for being fantastic. The rustic clubhouse is also a deluxe experience, and will be remembered for a wonderful outing.

Closest Airport: Will Rogers Wiley Post Memorial, 4.3 miles

The Nicklaus Course at Pronghorn Golf Club, Oregon

This course is well worth the play and should be on every golfer’s bucket list. It’s in Bend, Oregon, which means it isn’t exactly a stone’s throw away from Portland International airport. But, you’re in luck - you can get a private charter plane to zoom you over there for some of the most amazing golf in the region.

Designed by golfing great Jack Nicklaus, the course is impressive and pristine. Juniper forests and unique lava formations are just some of the amazing sights. If you thought golf couldn’t be romantic, think again! The Cascades as your backdrop is breathtaking, too, and adds to the romance of it all. The course accommodates all levels of golfers and has rare back-to-back par-5s.

Closest Airport: Bend Municipal Airport, 7.9 miles

Pikewood National Golf Club, West Virginia

This spectacular golf course is just a little more than 2 miles away from the local airport, so you won’t waste a stitch of time getting your drive on.

Breathtaking views, challenging gameplay, and unique scenery, including a waterfall (that would make a fantastic proposal spot!), make this course well worth the play. Regardless of your score, it’s absolutely worth experiencing together on this special day.

Closest Airport: Morgantown Municipal Airport-Walter L. Bill Hart Field, 2.3 miles

Scioto Country Club, Ohio

The beautifully manicured lawns of the Scioto Country Club may hide the challenge of the course, but they perfectly express the elegant experience of playing here.

Five different major tournaments have been held here, the most recent being the 2016 US Senior Open. This is an indication of the quality of everything from the course to the clubhouse.

Scioto is also known for being one of the most challenging opening 5 holes around, so come prepared for a hard fight. It will be worth it when you reach the end together, though!

Closest Airport: Bolton Field, 8.4 miles

The Quarry at La Quinta, California

If you thought you couldn’t play golf in a desert, you’d be wrong. Aptly nicknamed the “Queen of the Desert” by some of its members, this course is loved for its architecture and finely-crafted holes.

You’ll need to find a member who’s willing to take you along as a guest, but the challenge and interesting environment is well worth it. The mix of desert scenery and lush greens is a striking and beautiful sight, and even the frustration of the challenging holes is somehow enjoyable when you’re experiencing it with your SO.

Closest Airport: Bermuda Dunes, 6.2 miles

Arcadia Bluffs Golf Club, Michigan

Overlooking Lake Michigan, this seaside links-esque course is incredible, not only in the golf play, but also the breathtaking views.

You don’t need to be a member to enjoy a round here. You’re welcome to reserve a tee time any time, and you’ll be glad you did.

The club actually offers two courses. Both, although fairly flat, are rough and rugged, providing a decent challenge for even advanced golfers.

Don’t let your experience stop there, though. Savor a scrumptious meal at the restaurant and spend a romantic night in one of their luxurious rooms or cottages before flying back the next day.

Closest Airport: Frankfort Dow Memorial Field, 9.4 miles

Conclusion

Every one of these golf courses is within 10 miles of the airport, so you won’t waste much time getting there and starting your round.

Many of these courses are only frequented by locals, but they all provide a superior playing experience that you’ll enjoy if you take the time to visit them!

Don’t let member-only courses put you off. If you’re serious about golf, they’re spectacular courses to play on. All you need to do is put the word out and you may find yourself flying in on a private jet in no time.

If you love someone who loves golf, this could be the perfect, exciting, luxurious experience! Pack your bags and you are ready to go!
