At 24-years old, entrepreneur Kennith Cameron has one of those 100-watt smiles that instantly brightens a room. When he talks to you about the GLBT community and its future, he shows a genuine concern, carefully listening to your issues before sharing his thoughts.
Cameron firmly believes that one should put back into the community ten-fold what one takes out. And it’s for this reason that he’s recently left American Home Mortgage to join a new mortgage broker firm, New Wave Mortgage.
“I want to support and be involved in our community,” he said. “That’s one of the main reasons I left to start out on my own: I want to be able to give back to this community that I love so much.”
So now he’s a one-man-show, who is quick on his feet and able to provide more than 1,000 different financial products to clients seeking home financing. Cameron says he can close loans faster; he can be more responsive to his customer’s needs than he previously could, and he can pass the savings on to clients, because he doesn’t have the overhead of a large corporation.
New Wave Mortgage offers a wide variety of loan options from purchases to construction loans to refinancing. Cameron said he even offers a financial services package for people with less than desirable credit to help them get back on the right track.
“New Wave Mortgage can custom tailor your financing to meet your needs,” he said, adding, “We can do traditional loans, interest only loans, as well as commercial loans.”
Cameron’s company isn’t the only mortgage broker firm reaching out to the GLBT community. Locally, Carteret Mortgage (Mike Machek and Brad Tilford), American Home Mortgage, and Wells Fargo are just a few of the companies that market to the GLBT community.
“It is a great market,” Cameron said, “but it’s also nice to do business with people that you know and trust, and that allow you to be who you are.”
