ZERO (2) ZERO Community Block Party, presented by Street Works, will take place at 1709 Church St. on Saturday, August 27, 2016, and feature health screenings, food trucks, a school supply giveaway, live DJ, children’s fun area, and other vendors.
Street Works is proud to bring ZERO (2) ZERO Community Block Party to Church Street for the first time ever. ZERO (2) ZERO will highlight the new HIV advancements that will get the community to ZERO HIV transmissions by the year 2020. It will also celebrate the hard working police officers and the community for ZERO Police/Community Incidents for shootings of unarmed men.
ZERO (2) ZERO is a FREE event that will start at 10AM until 2PM. The ZERO (2) ZERO Community Block Party seeks to educate the community about the new biomedical advancements in HIV, as well as building better relationships between the community and law enforcement. The CDC predicts that if current trends persists, that 1 in 2 African American Gay Men, 1 in 4 Latino Gay Men, and 1 in 11 White Gay Men will become HIV positive. Women of African American descent are also disproportionately affected by the virus, and have seen spikes in infections. However, new biomedical advancements can change the reality of HIV in this country, and it is important that we educate the community about prevention methods that help us prevent new infections. The CDC predicts that increased regular HIV testing in combination with biomedical advancements will help people affected or infected with HIV get to ZERO HIV transmissions by the year of 2020.
Another growing public health epidemic here in the U.S. is police/community relations. Fortunately, Nashville has not dealt with this type of tragedy, and we are pushing to prevent such events from occurring by helping facilitate healthy relationships and dialogue between the community and local law enforcement. We want to remain at ZERO incidents with Police/Community Incidents and celebrate Nashville’s Law enforcement.
