Fans of Daft Punk, the famed Grammy Award winning duo, rarely get the chance to see the group perform. Other than an appearance with Kanye West at the 2008 Grammy Awards, they have not been seen on stage in the United States since fall 2007, and word is that their next world tour won’t come until 2010 or 2011. But thanks to Alfredo Lapuz Jr. and Stanley Walker, two fast-rising musicians out of Athens, Ga., Daft Punk is hitting the road this spring.

Very Disco: A Daft Punk Tribute, as their project is known, goes far beyond a simple Daft Punk tribute. It’s a live ride through the group’s dance inducing electronic sound that uses keyboards, Auto-tuned vocals, live remixing and DJing to touch on the entire Daft Punk catalog. And, of course, there’s an elaborate stage show that mimics the group’s signature psychedelic light display.
The duo, who moved to Athens a couple of years ago after meeting at the University of Florida, are longtime Daft Punk fans who eventually got to the point where they could reproduce the group’s complex songs with live instruments.
Very Disco’s concept might be new, but Lapuz Jr. and Walker are no strangers to the stage. They perform together regularly as part of the popular Atlanta hip-hop act Collective Efforts. Lapuz Jr., who is also part of the Athens-based group Velveteen Pink, has built a strong following online through remixes and mash up tracks that he produces under the name Immuzikation. Lapuz Jr. is also a regular member in the new buzz band Kuroma.
