Three esteemed singer/songwriters have teamed up for a tour — Three Women & the Truth — that will bring them to City Winery on September 29.
Mary Gauthier, Eliza Gilkyson, and Gretchen Peters have all had songs recorded by the top recording artists including Shania Twain, Joan Baetz, Etta James, Roseanne Cash and more. Two of them are GRAMMY-nominated and Gauthier’s latest album Trouble & Love has garnered praise from the LA Times, Wall Street Journal, NPR and more.
Billed as an evening of music and stories, the three told the Chicago Tribune we should anticipate an intimate evening among mutual admirers.
"I'm so future-oriented," said Peters, the writer of Martina McBride's "Independence Day" and inductee to the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. "I'm so not a person who spends time looking back at what I've done in the past. It was the best of all possible worlds to have my peers honor me (with the induction) at a time when I feel as artistically strong as ever."
"Older women get incredibly marginalized," added Gilkyson. "We really need to be modeling elder behavior as women and say, 'Hey, you're not supposed to be putting your head under a blanket once you're past 45.' Right now, that's what the culture is asking us to do."
Gauthier’s album Trouble & Love is an intensely personal album about heartbreak, but more importantly about transformation and survival. The eight songs featured on the album were carefully chosen from about thirty that Gauthier wrote. Each one tells a part of a very complete story, and especially hits home if you’ve ever been through the intensity of losing someone you’ve loved and grown attached to.
