The Tomorrow Fund serves up a rematch of The Battle of the Food Trucks

A rematch battle has been set. Nashville’s mobile food vendors will again dish out their best servings to Middle Tennessee as The Tomorrow Fund presents the 2nd annual Battle of the Food Trucks on Sunday, Oct. 14, from 3-6 p.m. at Greer Stadium (534 Chestnut Street, Nashville).

Only 600 tickets are available at $35 and are on sale at www.TheTomorrowFund.org. Proceeds from the 2nd annual event benefit The Tomorrow Fund, an initiative of The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee, which is comprised of a group of young area residents dedicated to encouraging philanthropy and practicing community service to support local nonprofit programs serving children.

The Battle of the Food Trucks will pit several of Nashville and Middle Tennessee’s popular mobile food vendors against each other as attendees sample food and vote for their favorite food truck amongst the contestants.

“After an overwhelming response to last year’s Battle of the Food Trucks, we are excited for the rematch, a fun and delicious competition for a charitable cause,” said Samantha Oaks, event chair for The Tomorrow Fund advisory board. “Of course, we couldn’t do it without the gracious sponsors, food vendors and the community who support this event and The Tomorrow Fund’s mission of benefiting local youth-oriented charitable organizations.”

Tickets include entry into the event, samples from the entire lineup of food trucks and one drink ticket. Attendees can donate five or more cans of food to receive an additional free drink ticket, and all canned goods will be donated to Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee. Nashville Metro Parks Department will provide picnic tables, but guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.

"The Community Foundation and its Tomorrow Fund are wonderful charitable resources for this community, and we're so pleased to be able to give back by participating in this event," said Chad Trout, owner of DegThai, a food truck serving Thai-fusion meals. "We're looking forward to a fun, friendly competition with fellow vendors and hope to win the top honor for our menu."

Participating food trucks include: Biscuit Love, The Cupcake Collection, Deg Thai, Hit and Miss, Hoss Loaded Burgers, The Hot Spot, Jonbaylaya, Retro Sno, Riff’s, Smoke et al, Sugar Wagon, and Wrapper’s Delight, with more participants anticipated.

At last year’s inaugural event, more than 500 guests voted Riff’s as the winner for the category “most savory dish” and The Cupcake Collection for the “best sweets” category. Deg Thai and Sugar Wagon were runners-up in both categories, respectively. The Battle of the Food Trucks proceeds benefit The Tomorrow Fund and its charitable grantmaking, which, in 2011, supported A.B.L.E. Youth, Foundation for Tennessee Chess, IKE Services, In Full Motion, and Our Kids.

This year’s Main Course sponsor is Pilot Flying J, and the Second Course sponsor is Nissan North America. Additional sponsors include: Foothill Entertainment Group, Kroger, Lightning 100, Lipman Brothers, Local Taco, Nashville Scene, NowPlayingNashville.com, Sawtooth Printhouse, Yazoo Brewing Company, and Yelp.
