Tennessee Transgender Political Coalition releases second quarter report for '07

The Tennessee Transgender Political Coalition has released its second quarter report. Below is a summary of activities from April to June.

  • Lobbied members of the Tennessee General Assembly during the current session.  Worked to pass legislation to permit post operative transsexuals to change birth certificates, opposed Voter ID bills which would disfranchise transgender voters, opposed legislation designed to destroy Gay-Straight Alliances, and other legislation that discriminates against GLBT persons.
  • Lobbied members of Congress from Tennessee in favor of legislation that would make Hate Crimes, and discrimination in Employment, based on sexual orientation and gender identity or expression, federal crimes.
  • Participated in the Save Your Receipts Campaign against Harris-Teeter and Kroger organized by the Nashville GLBT Chamber of Commerce and Tennessee Equality Project in support of Out & About Newspaper.
  • Participated in International Foundation for Gender Education Conference in Philadelphia, April 12 to 14.
  • Participated in the Day of Silence ceremony sponsored by the Gay Straight Alliance of Austin Peay State University in Clarksville on April 18.
  • Spoke to Vanderbilt University Divinity School in Nashville on April 20.
  • Spoke at Speak Out Forum sponsored by the Rainbow Alliance at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City on April 23.
  • Appeared on Queer Talk Radio on WRVU (91.1) in Nashville on April 28.
  • Participated in the Equality Council Meeting in Nashville on May 3.
  • Participated in Hate Crimes Vigil and Tennessee Valley Pride Spring Fling in Chattanooga on May 5 and 6.
  • Participated in Congressional Lobby Days with National Center for Transgender Equality and National Transgender Advocacy Coalition on May 15 and 16.
  • Participated in Nashville Pride on June 2.
  • Participated in Mid South Pride in Memphis on June 9.
  • Participated in GLBT Leadership Conference sponsored by Out Central in Nashville on June 19.
  • Spoke to Davidson County Democratic Party Executive Committee in Nashville on June 26.
  • Sponsored the movie, Citizen Lobbyist, in Chattanooga on June 16, and Nashville on June 28.

Upcoming participations for third quarter:

  • Will participate in Equality Federation Annual Meeting in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in August.
  • Will participate in Southern Comfort Conference in Atlanta in September

The Tennessee Transgender Political Coalition (TTPC) is an organization designed to educate and advocate on behalf of transgender related legislation at the Federal, State and local levels. TTPC is dedicated to raising public awareness and building alliances with other organizations concerned with equal rights legislation.
