Steven Murff, a former Artrageous co-chair and active supporter of Nashville's GLBT community, is seeking a nomination for the Davidson County Criminal Court clerk’s post.
Since April, Murff has been employed by the District of Columbia’s court system after previously serving for fifteen years in the Davidson County judicial system.
Councilman Michael Craddock and former Vice Mayor Howard Gentry have previously been nominated for the position. The council will elect the next clerk on Aug. 16.
Below is Murff's full message to the council posted by The Tennessean earlier today:
Please accept this email and resume for you to review as I seek nomination for the appointment of the Davidson County Criminal Court Clerk. I believe that my work experience, education and qualifications will benefit the future endeavors, programmatic expansions and sustainability of the Davidson County Criminal Court Clerk’s Office.
My fifteen year tenure within the Davidson County judicial system has provided me with a level of real life work experience within the judicial arena that is exemplary. Unlike other candidates for this position, my experience in the offices of quality assurance, court records, sentencing guidelines and regulations, Pretrial Services Division, Probation Department and my previous position of the past ten years as Program Director of the Davidson County Mental Health Court give me with a strong foundation to build upon if given the opportunity to serve as Davidson County Criminal Court Clerk. For the last three months, I have served as Branch Supervisor of the Quality Assurance Branch of the Criminal Division of the District of Columbia Superior Court System. My experience within the judicial system has provided me with a skill set and knowledge base that is unmatched by other candidates for this position.
Working with local, state and federal legislative branches of government to develop, sustain and modify legislation has allowed me to develop an unrelenting passion for my work within the judicial system. My ability to research, develop and compose grants at local, state and federal levels has allowed me to further the scope of the programs in which I have worked for; therefore, providing means of a better quality of service to the judicial branch of the court systems with a nuetral (sic) cost to the local taxpayer.
I believe that my lifelong work experience within the General Sessions court system of Davidson County coupled with federal government relationships as a governmental affairs liaison complemented by my educational background, excellent management skills, budget and finance proficiency, strong administrative abilities, and dedication to hard work make me the most qualified candidate for appointment to the office of Davidson County Criminal Court Clerk.
