Step by Step, Through the 2014 AIDS Walk Events

As you can see by our cover photo, the AIDS Walk Open golf tourney and pub crawl scheduled for March 1 is right around the corner. On the cover you’ll see the lovely ladies who won the grand prize in 2013 in their police uniforms from last year.

This year the co-chairs are: Eric Thomas and Terri and Mike Hurd. The annual event raises more than $20,000 each year. Josh Strodtman, associate producer for AIDS Walk events, said he expects this year’s AIDS Walk Open to raise even more money because the number of bars participating has increased.

Twelve bars will participate this year in the putt-putt pub crawl, up from nine bars in the past. Teams are required to play at six bars, and they can play at up to nine if they wish. Teams typically are made up of four people, but teams of three are also allowed. Costumes are encouraged. The best-dressed team is determined by the scorekeepers. Once again, the day will culminate with a big after-party at Missie B’s.

The grand-prize winners will receive a case of Miller Lite per player per month for a year. Prizes will also be awarded for the best-dressed team and the best of show (best hole). A number of raffle prizes are also planned. Registration goes live Jan. 30 at www.aidswalkopen.org.

As always, volunteers are needed. It takes more than 100 volunteers for AIDS Walk Open. To volunteer for any AIDS Walk event or to be a sponsor, contact Michael Lintecum, AIDS Walk event director, michael@lintecumgroup.com, or go to www.aidswalkkansascity.org on Jan. 30 or later.
Carni Val-O-Ween
Another AIDS Walk fundraising event will be the Millennial League’s 5th annual Val-O-Ween event at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, at the Madrid Theatre, 3810 Main St., Kansas City, Mo. The theme is “Carni Val-O-Ween.” Expect a night of great costumes, food, drink, and great fun benefiting the AIDS Service Foundation of Greater Kansas City.

Tickets start at $25 until Jan. 31. After that, prices range from $30 to $1,000, depending on the level of sponsorship. For tickets and more information, go to http://www.millennialleaguekc.org.
