Rugby Time! Grizzlies take on Atlanta Bucks

The Nashville Grizzlies will open their spring season this Saturday, March 29th, as they take on one of their biggest rivals, the Atlanta Bucks.

The Grizzlies are Nashville's only gay rugby football club.

The match starts at 11 a.m. at their Foster Avenue home field. The field is located at Nashville State Community College – Southeast - 1162 Foster Avenue - (the field is behind several school buildings at the back of the complex).

"Please come out and support us in our first home match of the season," said David Glasgow, team secretary. "We will have t-shirts for sale as well."

Glasgow said after the match that instead of their traditional 3rd Half, the team and its supporters will "be heading out to Donelson (yes, Donelson) for NashBash.  NashBash is a 26-year-old national amateur rugby tournament.  This year they have 70 teams playing all day both Saturday and Sunday. There will beer and rugby - what could be better - and it is always entertaining."

The Nashville Grizzlies RFC is a USA Rugby Division III club. We are a socially and ethnically diverse group of guys ages 19-50 learning a great sport, getting some good exercise and giving back to our community. We welcome new players, gay and straight, experienced, new to Rugby or even new to organized sports. Rugby has a position for every build so come out and give Rugby a try.

The next Grizzlies event will be on April 5, from 10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. where you can learn rugby 101 with hands-on demonstration from the Grizzlies. That event will take place at Boscobel Ave at 20th St, Nashville, TN at the East Nashville Rec Center. Take Shelby Ave all the way to Shelby Park and turn left on 20th. The Rec Center is one block off Shelby on Boscobel Ave.

The Grizzlies will also travel to Ireland in June 2008 to play in the IGRAB 4th Mark Bingham Memorial Cup, an international three day tournament for gay rugby clubs named for Mark Bingham, a gay rugby player from San Francisco and one of the heroes of 9/11.
