Rainbow ReVu at Vanderbilt to feature 13th annual drag show

Vanderbilt’s Lambda Association, the university’s gay/straight alliance, will host its 13th annual drag show Friday, March 28, at 7 p.m. on Vanderbilt’s Alumni Lawn.

The drag show will be the final event of Lambda’s first Rainbow ReVU, an entire week of activities, socials, lectures and awareness events celebrating GLBT culture both on the Vanderbilt campus and within the Nashville community. The Vanderbilt Lambda Association has made strides on campus this year, promoting awareness of GLBT issues and working to ensure the protection and equality of all who identify with the GLBT community.

The event is free and open to the public. Parking will be provided in Terrace Place Garage, as well as in Lot 12A (on Terrace Place), which is located off 21st Avenue South near West End Avenue.

The keynote awareness event of the 2008 Rainbow ReVU will be a lecture given by Dr. Simon LeVay, world-renowned neuroscientist and author of Queer Science. Dr. LeVay stands at the epicenter of the biological basis of the homosexuality debate, and his lecture will be an epic event for Vanderbilt University. Dr. LeVay will present his lecture on Wednesday, March 26, at 7:00 p.m. in Wilson Hall, Room 103 just off 21st Avenue North. A reception will follow the lecture; the entire campus and Nashville community are welcome.

This year’s drag show will feature local drag performer, Veronika Electronika. When asked how she sees her role as an entertainer, Veronika responded, "Keep them guessing!"

The event will begin with a reception of organizations from the Nashville community – such as Nashville Cares, One-In-Teen, and Brothers United – sharing information about their services.

The show will open with Vanderbilt’s own dance troupes, Momentum and VIBE, followed by Nashville’s finest queens and kings and the Digital Diva, Veronika Electronika.

According to organizers, this year's show will be the largest to date, and participation and donations from local organizations and businesses has enabled the event to reach its full potential.
