A Nashville gay bar has been named one of the 50 best in the country by Logo Network's gay travel Web site for the second year.
Hailed for its sexy patrons, gorgeous drag queens and ever-changing decor, Play Dance Bar was the only Tennessee bar to make the list on tripoutgaytravel.com.
"I wanted the places where the booze flows freely, where the crowd is crazily unpredictable, where there’s always the opportunity for anything to happen," wrote John Polly in the TripOut.com article. "Because when when I think of the “Best Gay Bars,” I think of places where raucous theme nights are the norm, where the locals are crazy and possibly hot, and where fun, unpredictable, bad behavior abounds."
Bars were chosen from personal nominations from travel writers, media pros and party people based on their own experiences. Calpernia Addams, a former cast member at the bar, told TripOut that Play Dance Bar was worthy of being one of the 50 best.
"Play exemplifies the real Nashville: A cosmopolitan entertainment-business city with transplants from all over the country and all over the world, mixing with good-hearted country folk from all races and economic backgrounds," Addams said.
General Manager Oscar Rodriquez keeps things fresh with hand-made decorations for the bar's many theme nights which recently included an elaborate transformation into Alice's Wonderland.
“We have an amazing staff that works so hard to provide a great nightclub experience for our customers, and I know it makes all of us proud when we are recognized as one of the country’s 50 best gay bars," Rodriquez said. "Maybe more people will think of Nashville as a gay/lesbian travel destination because of recognition like this.”
