Performance Studios, a local full-service entertainment support business for twenty-two years, has recently relocated from its downtown location to Thompson Lane in South Nashville.
Their new home is over 24,000 square feet, more than twice the size of their previous location on Church Street. It was originally built as a skating rink and most recently housed an H.H. Gregg appliance center.
With 25,000 pieces of costume rentals and a full line of cosmetics and accessories, Performance Studios is the largest of its kind in the Southeast. Owner Gary Broadrick says that the time was right for a change.
"We'd been diligently looking for a location for a year and a half," he said. "The downtown area is expanding and it's hard to have that much space there now."
The store's section of Church Street had also been slated for development, further prompting the move to a growing section of the metro Nashville area.
"We're right in the middle of all this rejuvenated development on Thompson Lane," Broadrick said. "The community has been very welcoming."
Performance Studios has become an industry leader with many specialties that focus on the entertainment support area. According to Broadrick, there are currently two hair salons on site, along with retail associates who can assist with customer needs. Though they've become known as a prime source for Halloween attire, Performance Studios offers much more than costumes and directions for the holiday.
"The way we stand out is in the variety of services and the large variety of inventory," Broadrick said. "With this new space, we're able to keep most everything on public display."
In order to provide reasonable rates for theater companies and large groups, he's developed different full-service packages for live shows. For some customers, though, it's the little things that count.
"Many people have made favorable comments about the wonderful parking lot," Broadrick boasted.
