'Peeples' a comedy gem

Forbes 2011 richest man in entertainment has done it again.  Last night, Tyler Perry proved that he is more than just a crooked wig wearing. gun toting, sassy-mouth grandma. The writer-actor-producer’s latest project, Peeples, explores family dynamics in a time and place not commonly seen on the big screen and with lots of comedic value.

Despite its slow start, Peeples begins to cook in the supermarket scene several minutes into the film and once the laughter begins, it does not stop until the credits began to roll. Craig Robinson plays opposite  Kerry Washington as Wade Walker and as the film moves along, becomes more believable and worthy of this lead role, pleasing the audience with quite a few moments laughter with music.

Kerry Washington is brilliant as the warm and supportive Grace Peeples.  She shines in the film as the leading lady in the same way that she shines as the demanding, problem solving, business owner on her hit TV show, Scandal, proving that this young actress is unstoppable.

Comedy legend, David Alan Grier, plays the Honorable Virgil Peeples, the overprotective and unapproachable father of Grace Peeples.  He puts boyfriend, Wade Walker, through a great deal of drama before letting him know that many have tried to seek approval for his little girl’s hand in marriage and many have failed.

Other highlights from the film include Grace’s younger brother, the highly entertaining Tyler Williams who plays Simeon Peeples, the youngest in this dysfunctional family.  Simeon seeks attention from his parents yet makes an earnest attempt to establish his prep school educated ‘gangsta’ swag.  Perry continues to envelope the audience in laughter as Walker’s brother joins the family for the weekend and is boldly offered by Grace’s sister, Gloria, to help her decide her sexual orientation.  Even Grace’s mother Daphne (played by S. Epatha Merkerson) has to put her bottle down to help work out the family issues.

Tyler Perry can safely add this work to his string of comedy hits and as for the fans, they should tell their peeples it’s worth the trip to the theater.
