O&AN celebrates 8 years

We at O&AN are celebrating eight great years this month. During this time, our publication has given the GLBT community of Nashville a voice and helped celebrate the positive contributions and creativity of its members.

Publisher Jerry Jones created the newspaper in 2002 to fill a void in the GLBT news media. There were two GLBT publications, Query and Xenogeny, in Nashville at the time, but each of them provided mostly entertainment content. Before Inside Out (formerly Xenogeny) went monthly last year, O&AN was the only monthly GLBT publication in the region.

O&AN, published on the first Monday of every month, features in-depth local news coverage along with political, business, feature, sports and entertainment stories. Our biggest change in the last year has been a shift from a printed format to a glossy cover format that has received positive feedback from our readers.

In addition to our monthly print edition, we also offer vital multimedia content. The website, which boasts one million page views per month, is continually updated with community information and breaking news. Our weekly newsletter is delivered directly to your email inbox, and the staff regularly posts updates to Facebook and Twitter. And recently, we introduced video updates that promote GLBT events in Tennessee.

We even maintain a television presence to reach a broader audience. Out & About Today, produced in conjunction with Out & About Newspaper, features news, entertainment and business information geared toward Middle Tennessee's gay and lesbian community. It's the first show of its kind to be directly affiliated with a national network affiliate.

As we examine our progress in the last eight years, we are very grateful for our advertisers and our readers. Some of our advertisers have been with O&AN since the beginning, a tribute to the loyalty within the GLBT community. We are confident that advertisers in our pages and on our Web site are putting themselves in front of an economically powerful demographic that is loyal to businesses who support the GLBT community. We strive to be a valued news resource in the community while promoting advancement and equality on the local and national levels.
