A newly formed chapter of the Mid Tennessee Stonewall Democrats has planned its first meeting for Sunday, August 13, at 2:00 p.m. at the home of chapter chairman Daniel Lee, 1200 McFerrin Avenue, Nashville, Tenn. 37206.
Lee, a professional writer and editor, is a recent transplant to Nashville. He moved to the area in June of this year and was surprised to find no existing local chapter of the Stonewall Democrats.
“Currently the only chapter they had in Tennessee was in Memphis,” said Lee. “So I decided to start one here.”
Lee began gauging interest for a chapter by creating Yahoo groups, MySpace profiles, and speaking about the formation of the organization in middle Tennessee with friends and other community groups. Through this networking, Lee was able to gather enough support to begin the formal chapter formation process. Anyone seriously interested in joining the new chapter is encouraged to do so through Lee.
“There is currently no Mid Tennessee chapter designation on the national Stonewall Democrats membership Web page,” said Lee. “People need to join through me so they can immediately be part of the Mid Tennessee chapter.”

Future events include a booth at Illusions II, 339 Wilhagen Road in Nashville, on Sept. 3, and a formal dinner on Sept. 16, with several invited guests including local and national political figures as well as celebrities who support the cause of the Mid Tennessee Stonewall Democrats.
