Nashville Pride announces entertainment lineup for 2011 festival

The entertainment lineup is set for the 2011 Nashville Pride Festival, Nashville Pride announced today.

The June 18 event will include a full day of exciting performances on the Bridgestone Main Stage including national sensations Kimberly Caldwell, God-Des and She, Jonny McGovern and locally-loved groups Knowing Me Knowing You and The Worsties.

“This year we wanted to offer entertainment as varied as the thousands of attendees who come to Music City to show their pride,” said Nashville Pride President Jack Davis. “With this eclectic line-up of performers, we believe we’ll have having something for everyone at what promises to be our biggest festival to date.”

Caldwell, who will release her debut album today, is perhaps best known as a second season contestant on television phenomenon American Idol. She currently works as an entertainment correspondent and hosts various shows on the TV Guide Network.

God-Des & She, a hip-hop/pop/soul duo bred in the Midwest, play to packed venues all over the world, from Lacrosse, Wisconsin, to Stockholm, Sweden. Ever since they appeared on Showtime’s The L Word three years ago, performing their infamous single “Lick It,” the pair hasn’t had a moment’s rest, selling over 30,000 albums, holding down the #1 song spot on MTV LOGO with their song “Love You Better."

McGovern is a groundbreaking comedian and has starred for three seasons on MTV/LOGO's Big Gay Sketch Show, hosted iTunes #1 LGBT podcast "Gay Pimpin' with Jonny McGovern" and is the music video artist behind the gay pride anthems, "Soccer Practice," "Somethin' For The Fellas (That Like the Fellas)" and the recent viral parody "Like a G6/:Likin' Big Dicks."

The Worsties have made a name for themselves in recent years with four EPs under their belt and a big win with the 2010 Nashville Independent Music Award for Best Pop/Indie Band.  The group has generated quite a stir in the local and regional touring circuit sharing the stage with such acts as Bon Jovi, Kid Rock, Big Boi, Cage the Elephant and many more. Along the way the band has attracted a faithful following in Atlanta, Louisville, Lexington, Indianapolis, Alabama, Austin, and of course, in most of the major markets in their home state of Tennessee.

Also, Nashville’s own ABBA tribute band, Knowing Me Knowing You, returns to the festival for the second year in a row.

Nashville Pride Fest will be held Saturday, June 18, at Riverfront Park from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. The event will also include a Local Artists Stage, Drag Stage and DJ Stage.

The purpose of the Nashville Pride is to maintain a sense of community and awareness of, about, and for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people and culture throughout Middle Tennessee.

Admission to the annual festival is $5.00. VIP tickets are $50 and include food and drink at the festival.  For up to date information, visit www.nashvillepride.org.
