Nashville Humane Association seeks extraordinary people and pets

The Nashville Humane Association is inviting the public to nominate extraordinary pets and people for its annual awards program. Winners will be announced at the organization’s annual Volunteer Awards Banquet in April.

The Nashville Humane Association seeks public nominees in the following categories:

Heroic Pet of the Year
This award celebrates a special animal who has demonstrated remarkable efforts on behalf of humans through acts of service, heroism and devotion.

Youth Animal Welfare Advocate of the Year
This award recognizes a young person in our community who has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to animals through acts of bravery, service, compassion or heroism.

Julia Colton Award
First awarded in 1995, the Julia Colton Animal Welfare Volunteer Award is presented in honor of Julia Colton. A dedicated volunteer, mentor and animal welfare advocate, Colton served as President of the Nashville Humane Association’s volunteer organization for several years in the ’80s and was an active member of the Board of Directors until she became ill in 1989.

Along with the Colton family, the Nashville Humane Association presents the Julia Colton Award to a volunteer whose commitment to the welfare of animals mirrors the contributions of the outstanding volunteer for whom this award is named.

Mary Pat Boatfield, executive director of the Nashville Humane Association, commented, “It is our great pleasure to recognize those individuals in our community who have so selflessly shared their valuable time, gifts and resources to help the animals. In addition, this is a special time to recognize the unique contributions made by the animals themselves.”

Nominations may be submitted through the Nashville Humane Association Website, www.nashvillehumane.org. Full details are available on the Website. The deadline for nominations is Friday, March 14.
