It should be no surprise to anyone that Lauper has long been a supporter of equality and gay rights. After a Grammy Award and numerous hits over the years, she is entering a whole different realm of her music career. She did the musical score for the highly anticipated upcoming Broadway musical Kinky Boots. The single, “The Sex Is in the Heel,” definitely has me interested. It’s great, and the slew of remixes is even better. My favorite remixes are “Morel’s Original Radio Edit” and “RLP Club Mix.” I can’t wait to hear more once the musical starts. The pre-Broadway premiere will be in Chicago from Oct. 2 to Nov. 4. Anyone want to take the eight-hour train ride from KC to Chicago with me? Anyone?

Aching for some queercore, punk, fast-paced, slap-your-dirty-fragile-face style music? Better yet, do want to keep it local? Look no further than Wick & the Tricks. Its punk edges stem from the early days of original punk and hardcore. Dare I say that I think under all the trash and punk-core of it all, I hear notes of psychobilly influences? I think I do and I quite like it, especially on the track “Activist Life (FBI Oh Yeah!).” The drums are fast, the guitar is gritty, the bass is sexy, and the vocals are screaming at you to take those mainstream plugs out of your ears. If you’re looking for something slower and soothing, you’re not going to find it here. You are clearly not ready. Do you want something to laugh at on YouTube when you are bored at home besides cat videos and people tripping? Be sure to check out Dragonfro Shorts. Keep an open mind, because even though this is a new YouTube channel, these guys from Kansas City, Kan., have already proved that they will make fun of anything. The videos don’t take long, roughly two to five minutes. They range from making bath salts taste like bacon, to redneck car dealers, and epic games of Gay Chicken. Don’t have a clue what I’m talking about? You will just have to watch.
