The Normal Heart is a searing drama about the public & private indifference to the AIDS plague in New York City between 1981 & 1984, and one man's lonely fight to awaken the world to the crisis. Produced to acclaim in New York, London and Los Angeles, The Normal Heart follows Ned Weeks, a writer & founder of a prominent HIV advocacy group, who is enraged at the indifference of public officials & the gay community towards the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Ned prefers loud public confrontations to the calmer, more private strategies favored by his associates, friends, and closeted lover Felix Turner. People continue to get sick & die around him as Ned fights relentlessly to get his voice heard over loud opposition.
The Normal Heart originally premiered Off-Broadway in 1985 & made its Broadway debut in April of 2011 where it won three Tony Awards – Best Revival of a Play, Best Featured Actor In a Play – John Benjamin Hickey, & Best Featured Actress in a Play – Ellen Barkin.
Music City Theatre Company's cast includes Matt Smith as Ned, Memory Strong as Emma, Daniel DeVault as Felix, Chuck Long as Mickey, Daniel Vincent as Bruce, Doug Allen as Ben, Daniel Morgan as Tommy, Chris Malone as Craig/Grady, Brian Sullivan as David/Doctor, & Fernando Ochoa as Hiram.
