With just one week left in the regular season, the Metro Nashville Softball Association is gearing up for the season-ending tournament to be held Saturday, July 18, at West Park* in West Nashville.
After a week off due to the Independence Day holiday, the teams will return to action on Sunday, July 12, to finish up the 2009 regular season. The berths to the NAGAAA World Series have already been set, but there is still plenty to play for as the overall C, D and E division titles are still on the line.
After play on Saturday, June 27, the NAGAAA qualifying had been completed. Nashville Players and Xplosion clinched the top two spots in D-division. Cyclones took the top spot in B-division, while Time and Fury punched their world series tickets in C-division.
At the end of competition on June 27, the D-division was split in two (D-division and E-division). Each team will play only teams in its respective division to finish out the season. Thus, there will be a D and E-division champion. After play on the 28th, Players (15-2) and Xplosion (13-4) are ahead of the rest of the pack in D-division. Play Swingers and Panthers are close behind with 12-5 marks. In the E-division, Fireballs (10-8) hold a slim one game lead over Holy Trinity Red (9-9). Players Too is still in the running with a 7-11 mark.
The C-division will have a clash of the top two teams on Sunday, July 12, that will play a part in the regular season champion, as Time (9-4) will face off against Fury (8-5) at 2 p.m. on Field 4. Fury is playing with a lot of confidence after winning the championship of the Big Peach Softball Tournament in Atlanta over the 4th of July weekend. The Clippers (4-9) continue to show a lot of improvement. They gained a big confidence boost with a win over previously unbeaten Cyclones on June 28. Good Times, who finished second at the Atlanta Big Peach tournament, has finished regular season play with a 7-8 record.
