Alan Maloney has joined The Wilson Group as a real estate agent, bringing with him years of experience as a title agent and residential appraiser.
Maloney, who co-founded Nashville Title Insurance in 2001 and was partner and senior vice president, sold his interest in that business last year.
“During the past year I also became a residential appraiser and felt the move to selling real estate as the next natural step,” Maloney said. “I came to work for The Wilson Group about two months ago and business took off. I already have several listings as well as buyers so it's all very exciting.”
Maloney said his many years of experience in different areas of the real estate industry would be of great benefit to his clients.
“I am able to bring my clients a wide variety of expertise,” he said. “Not only from the title perspective, but also my background as co-founder of Nashville Mortgage and that as an appraiser.
As president of the Salemtown Neighborhood Association and a native Nashvillian, Maloney is connected to his community. It’s that connection that he hopes will pay off for buyers hoping to purchase in the downtown area.
“I am specializing in the downtown, near north areas of town such as Germantown, Salemtown, Hope Gardens and Historic Buena Vista,” he said. “But having grown up in Nashville, I have a vast knowledge of the entire city as well as the surrounding counties.”
Customer service is something Maloney learned the importance of a long time ago, having worked in the hotel industry in Nashville and Chicago in sales and marketing, and its something he’s glad to see The Wilson Group make it a priority.
“Working for the Wilson Group is a privilege and the personal attention that a client gets here from all the agents is unsurpassed,” he said.
Maloney and his partner Kyle Pendleton will celebrate eight years together, "God willing," in January of '08. The two met at a mutual friend’s Christmas party. Maloney laughs when he looks back on that first meeting, saying he felt for sure his “gaydar” wasn’t working properly.
“My friend wanted me to find out if I thought Kyle was gay,” he said. “Well I was convinced that he was not.”
Despite the broken gaydar, Kyle called Maloney two days after the party to see if he wanted to hang out.
“A gay person buying a home should be as comfortable as possible, especially if they are buying that home with a partner or want to have their significant other present,” he said.
Maloney said that despite the current turmoil in the real estate mortgage industry, the local market remained strong.
“We are just experiencing stabilization, he said. “Properties are still moving - it's just taking a few days longer than it was to sell than it did six months ago. It's a great buyer's market, so if you are looking to invest, now would be a great time. Fortunately Nashville has never been hit by the fluctuation in price that the larger markets have experienced.”
