Macy's honors National Pride Month with 'Pride & Joy'

Macy’s will pay tribute to national LGBTQ Pride Month with its celebratory campaign, Pride + Joy, featuring a wide array of in-store events, parades, commemorative advertising and sponsorships. Pride + Joy, the company’s annual LGBTQ campaign, continues to highlight Macy’s long-standing commitment to diversity, inclusion and respect.

Melody Regalado, a media relations manager for Macy's, confirmed to O&AN that though there are no special events scheduled for the Nashville market, the products benefiting LGBT causes are available locally. Those products include Love Bravery and Proposition Love.

As part of its national campaign, Macy’s continues its strong partnership with The Trevor Project. Founded in 1998 by the creators of the 1994 Academy Award-winning short film “TREVOR,” The Trevor Project is the leading national organization providing crisis-intervention and suicide-prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) young people ages 13 to 24. In addition to its financial support to the organization, this year, Macy’s is also sponsoring TrevorLIVE, the foundation's semi-annual gala in Los Angeles and New York City.

“Macy’s is proud to continue our support for the LGBTQ community through our annual Pride + Joy campaign,” said William Hawthorne, Macy’s senior vice president of Diversity Strategies and Inclusion. “Whether it’s through events, our practices or via partnerships with LGBTQ organizations like the Trevor Project and the Human Rights Campaign, among other organizations; we are steadfast in our commitment to being an inclusive company as we support our employees, customers and the communities in which we do business.”

“We are delighted with our ongoing partnership with Macy’s. They have been long time Trevor Project supporters, previous TrevorLIVE corporate honorees, and are always looking for innovative ways to support the work we do to save young lives,” said Abbe Land, executive director and CEO of Trevor Project. “This year they have raised the bar with increased financial support, as well as a once-in-a-lifetime Macy’s experience that will be offered exclusively at TrevorLIVE on June 13 in New York City.”

To honor this commitment to equality and celebrate the rich diversity of our society, Macy’s special in-store Pride festivities will feature events focused on the latest fashions, support for local charities and personal appearances. The campaign will also be highlighted via commemorative advertising and window treatments.

Customers can shop Love Bravery, a high-spirited, limited-edition line of clothing and accessories by Lady Gaga and Sir Elton John that inspire compassion and combat prejudice. Available exclusively at Macy's, 25 percent of the purchase price will benefit Born This Way Foundation and the Elton John AIDS Foundation. Additionally, customers can also purchase Proposition Love jewelry on macys.comwhich supports the fight for LGBT equality.
