Local Host Committee for Creating Change ‘06 Sets to Work

Our GLBT community is actively planning for the Creating Change Conference to come to Kansas City this November. Sponsored by the National Gay & Lesbian Task Force, this conference will bring more than 2,500 visitors to our city, giving us an opportunity to highlight the strengths and uniqueness our community has to offer.
Creating Change is a grassroots, activist-based gathering of GLBT people from all over the country working to educate, organize, and motivate necessary action. This year’s conference will be held November 8-12 at the Westin Crown Center.
The four cochairs for the Kansas City Host Committee--Mitch Levine, Dianna Kuhlman, Christopher Renner, and Carla Moore—will be working with volunteers on a variety of subcommittees to make sure participation from our community is strong and that those visiting during the conference enjoy their experience in KC.
We Need Volunteers
Current local subcommittees that are looking for members are:
• Local Promotion & Outreach: Going to organizations, meetings, and events to give information about the Creating Change conference.
• Volunteers: Establishing a strong local group of individuals to volunteer during the conference.
• Programming: Identifying local/regional resources to provide workshops/sessions during the conference.
• Hospitality Support for Youth, Elders, People of Color: Working with local vendors to provide meals, entertainment, etc., for these groups.
• Spirituality: Arranging for local spiritual entities to have a consistent presence during the conference.
Workshops and Sessions
Every year, the host city for Creating Change is encouraged to play an active role in the conference’s workshops and sessions. For those who would like to present a session, an official Request for Proposal form can be found at www.creatingchange.org; all interested parties must meet the criteria of the RFP.
Creating Change wants to have the many voices from Kansas City’s GLBT community all represented, and we’re asking you to submit your proposals in a timely manner. Deadline for submissions is July 14. The notification process will begin in mid-August.
