The concert will be held Sunday, Oct 18, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at First Church Unity. The out, Christian couple will feature some of their billboard-charting songs from their latest album "Safe," as well as songs included on the hit Showtime documentary-film "We’re All Angels’ released last year.
Nashville-based Soles4Souls and First Church Unity will be collecting gently worn footwear and/or monetary donations to ship the shoes to a person in need, whether they are victims of a natural disaster or subject to living in extreme poverty. Since 2005, Soles4Souls has reportedly given away more than 5.5 million pairs of new and gently worn shoes to people in more than 125 countries.
“It is our hope that the concert featuring Jason & deMarco will be a call for action for people in the Nashville area to ‘Step Up’ and get involved,” said Wayne Elsey, Founder and CEO of Soles4Souls. “It’s one of the most simple yet profound gifts you can make, because it will greatly improve someone’s life in the most difficult of times,” he said.
A $5 discount will be given on the ticket price at the door with the donation of a pair of shoes. Tickets cost $10 in advance and $15 at the door (5125 Franklin Road) and can be purchased at firstchurchunity.org.
Filmmaker Jeff Barrie will also be present at the concert to talk about his documentary ‘Kilowatt Ours’ which traces the steps of the electricity used in a light bulb from the coal mine to the light socket. A preview of the film will be shown to raise awareness for the environmental challenges the country is facing.
Jason & deMarco will be available for a meet-and-greet at Suzy Wong's House of Yum (1517 Church St.) after the concert with the purchase of a special ticket which includes the concert and appetizers for $50.
