More about White Christmas...

Audiences at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center (TPAC) will celebrate the holiday season with Irving Berlin’s White Christmas, playing Nov. 27 – Dec. 2, in Andrew Jackson Hall. Adapted from the classic American film — inspired by the song — the new musical is an offering in the series of national tours stopping in Nashville for the annual season of “HCA/TriStar Broadway at TPAC.”

The movie and the stage musical tell the story of two successful showmen who come to the rescue of the general they served during World War II. Working with a duo of singing sisters, they stage a Broadway revue at their general’s Vermont lodge as business suffers from lack of snow. In addition to the title song, the best-selling holiday single in history, the score features “Blue Skies,” “Sisters,” “Count Your Blessings Instead of Sheep,” “I Love a Piano?” and other Berlin favorites.

“Whatever your dreams for a happy holiday, we know you’ll create a special memory with family and friends at this show. Hope and optimism are central to the story and place in time. The songs are joyful and stage design shines. It’s like walking into magical snow globe,” said Kathleen O’Brien, TPAC’s president and chief executive officer. “From the moment we announced our 2007-2008 season of HCA/Tri Star Broadway at TPAC, our subscribers and group leaders expressed their excitement over the chance to see this particular show. The response was overwhelming when tickets went on sale to the general public. Some of our eight performances are already close to sold-out. If you want to see ‘White Christmas’ in Nashville, make your plans and buy your tickets right away.”

The 1954 Paramount film White Christmas starred Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney and Vera-Allen.

The stage version, under the direction of Jeff Calhoun who just directed the national tour of Disney’s High School Musical, features a cast of artists with impressive Broadway, film, and national theatre credits.

White Christmas features Music and Lyrics by Irving Berlin with Book by David Ives and Paul Blake. This brand new production of White Christmas is produced by Atlanta’s Theater of the Stars, with previews at the Savannah Civic Center before opening at the Fabulous Fox Theatre in Atlanta and touring to another seven cities across the United States.

In addition to White Christmas and Disney’s High School Musical, Jeff Calhoun directed and choreographed the award-winning Deaf West production of Big River and served as producer and director/choreographer for the Broadway production of Brooklyn the Musical. He directed and choreographed the 1994 Broadway revival of Grease! and he co-choreographed the Broadway revival of Annie Get Your Gun. His Broadway directing debut was Tommy Tune Tonight.

The creative team includes Noah Racey as Choreographer, Steven Landau as Musical Director and Conductor; Kenneth Foy as Scenic Designer; Ken Billington as Lighting Designer; Peter Fitzgerald and Erich Bechtel as Sound Designers; and Wade Laboissonniere as Costume Designer.
